my second notable Heated Rivalry take
so I started reading the books so I didn't catch this, but they changed a few things in the TV adaptation that really stand out to me.
One being that in the books, Scott wants to bottom the first (and second, and I think MAYBE third I kinda lost track) time they're together, and Kip, in his internal monologue admits to having assumed Scott was a top because of how butch he is. This is a really, really cool statement about stereotypes related to height or masculinity corresponding to preferred position. In the TV series, it is implied that Scott tops and that's kind of that.
The second thing is that in the book, Kip has a father and while we never see her, his mom is very much around and they talk about her. Scott was raised by a single mother who died. In the show, this is flipped around so that Scott had two active parents who died in the same accident. Kip meanwhile is shown only to have a father, I cannot remember if his mother is actually stated to be dead.
Combine that with my last post on the subject (the show dancing around the word bisexual, but the book not being shy at all about using it, and in fact, Scott even thinks to himself that while he is relieved that Kip brought a woman to his game, he could be bisexual and so Elena COULD be his girlfriend for all he knows) and idk man
some strange choices were made to erase the entire theme of breaking down stereotypes, and possibly even reinforce them. Something something gay men and single parents something something lack of a male role model, the parents thing isn't clear to me why they would make that change.
much to think about. entirely possible I missed something or got some facts wrong, just some thoughts I have
