"Marvel is gone, and we needed help with--"
"Captain Marvel is missing?!" Zatanna says, horrified.
"Yes and we need help with a magical problem." Batman finishes, but Zatanna has stood and started pacing, fearfully.
"You're gonna need a lot more than just help if he's actually gone." She says, stress making her voice tight.
"Explain." Batman leans back in his chair, arms crossed.
"Captain Marvel is the Champion of Magic. He's the center of it all. If he just goes missing, it... if he's not doing his duties, magic will die."
Batman scoffs dryly, "Sounds like it would make everyone's lives easier."
Zatanna shook her head, hands trembling, voice low.
"No, it wouldn't. Magic... Magic is alive. It is flourishing and warm and inexplicably breathing. If magic thinks it's going to die soon... It will claw and rend and tear everything it touches to shreds." She stutters out a breath.
"If Captain Marvel is truly gone, magic will die kicking and screaming, and it will take everyone on the planet with it."
