Newsflash to writers out there.

Just because your female hero has a temper and can insult and smash any opposition against her DOES NOT make her a true, strong female character.

Just a reminder: Might does not automatically make right.

To close off with a quote from Peter Cullen (in his humble honesty, who is quoting his late older brother Larry, a Vietnam War Veteran), "If you're gonna be a hero. Be a real hero. Don't be a Hollywood Hero type, with all the BS, and all the yelling and screaming and trying to be tough. Be strong enough to be gentle."

(And you know what? This isn't just applicable to female heroes, but also for male heroes as well.)

I just realized I have little to no characters or versions of characters who are plain heroes/good guys

All of them are technically on the spectrum of morally grey to horrible evil bastard

I really love heroes who are just genuinely so good that they do good things and are a hero without having to just be the hero if that makes sense. Like, for example, Tanjiro is so pure, empathetic, honest, and kind that he wants to help. For example, Sonic does whatever he wants to. Sonic is unique in the way that he is free, embraces himself, and is confident with himself because of that. He knows what he is, he knows what he can do, he embraces himself with confidence and does whatever feels good to him. He does good things and is the hero just because he is the metaphor of the good in people. He is pure enough and feels good enough doing good things that he just is the hero without thinking about it really. Tanjiro is pure enough that he just does the good things because he is pure enough, kind enough, and empathetic enough that he just does the good thing. They’re different obviously but the trait that is similar, that makes me love them both so much on a fundamental level, is that they’re both pure heroes. They don’t need to say they’re heroes to do the good thing, they don’t need to think about it, they are heroes just by being because they’re that good. Those are my favorite hero characters. :)

I have such a thing for heroic characters. They usually are given flack for being poorly written. Truth be told, a lot of them are. But I can't resist a character that is actually 100% nice, altruistic and brave.

Maybe it is my angst with the state of the world right now speaking, but I'm so tired of backstabbing cowards and ruthless crooks.

I love reading and watching about nice and caring characters, about camaraderie and friendship, about sacrifice and courage. The world needs heroes right now.
