Using the musical skills they picked up from writing and composing their own themes, actually getting started doesn't take nearly as long

They spent weeks writing and composing the song, keeping it a secret from Sonic was the hardest part. It was supposed to be the last present for Sonic's B-Earth-Day, they planned to play the song to Sonic when they got back home, in the same backyard concert Sonic had set up for the family all those months ago. However that surprise has to be delayed significantly because of what happened in Sonic 3 and Tom having to recover.

However, when everything settles down and Tom is recovered fully, they feel ready enough to show Sonic the surprise.
