hiyoko's way of flirting with you are insults! that girl can't even be nice to the person she's in love with! the best she can offer is a tsundere-like personality on some days, while being full on mean on most days!

and mahiru isn't much better. she's far more tsundere than hiyoko! one moment she's being all sweet with you, the next moment she gets self conscious and blurts out something mean that she quickly regrets

however, while each girl individually flirts with you by teasing you or being a little mean, they'll jump to your defense the second someone else does what they do!

if mahiru catches hiyoko insult you – aka. try to flirt with you – she immediately defends you and actually reveals how much she cares about you!

even though both girls are romantic rivals and equally suck at flirting, they're never bitter towards each other!

hiyoko might act like she doesn't like mahiru, but if you were to say something mean about mahiru, hiyoko would be the first to defend her!

they certainly don't seem like rivals most of the time, though they don't seem like allies either. they each hold no grudge against each other, even as they go all out ‘flirting’ with you!
