A picture is worth a thousand words. • I am honoured to be chosen for the second time by @hongkongtatler as one of the top yogis in Hong Kong to follow. This has reminded me that there are all these amazing Yoga teachers from whom I have lots and lots to learn. Follow link in bio to read the full article. • @instagram has strangely created a thriving space for #yogis and #yoginis around the world. And I’m grateful to have been obsessed with photography (think 35mm and 120mm film back then when I was young) and this previous obsession has helped me spread the message of Yoga - which has been my obsession for the last 8 years or so. And these two obsessions are now combined to what is known as #instayoga. • Is it the best medium to teach Yoga? Hell no. To me, I am still a traditionalist who believes that direct experience is the best way to learn - in classes, workshops, teacher trainings, Mentorship programmes, etc. But images are powerful tools to inspire others to take up whatever Yoga goodies they can grasp. It could be someone who has never done Yoga before and saw a picture in a relatable setting doing a relevant pose that can echo to their lives and needs. That’s why my photos are mostly shot with my #iphone, in a more spontaneous environment and with guys (so that more guys can be inspired to take up Yoga, just like what @boysofyoga is promoting). You don’t need to be flexible to do Yoga. You don’t need a perfect body to do yoga. Everyone can do yoga. Over the past two decades, FITNESS, our industry has thrived through multiple challenges, including 9/11 and the financial crisis of the late 2000s-but we have never witnessed anything like this. Who could have imagined when we were ringing in the New Year that a pandemic would be threatening the health of our businesses and our loved ones? Nevertheless, this is precisely what we are facing today. The pandemic changed the Hong Kong fitness industry forever. From the beginning, we executed what was right, and more than 1,000 gyms across Hong Kong closed for weeks because of the coronavirus.⁠ Our Fitness industry is one of the hardest-battered industries amid the pandemic. Some small fitness studios shut down; the city's thousands of gym trainers have suffered a plunge in income for months. The city's joblessness has been surging; the jobless rate soared to 5.2 percent, the highest in more than 15 years.⁠ By comparison, last year the city's fitness industry was worth HK $ 2.8 billion (US $ 361 million). NO MORE! Those numbers are significant, but not indicate how much healthier we build our community. We care, we prevent, we help. Additionally, all of us need to understand FITNESS is more than you think. Fitness improves HEALTH, where health is defined as a state of complete mental, physical, and social well-being. Remember FITNESS gives you the ability to meet the demands of the environment. FITNESS improves the body mentally as well as physically, and it can be a great way to make your life sickness-free.
