I’ve only seen you mention it once or twice on here, but do you have anything you could share about your Haunted Mansion au? Sorry if this is intrusive or anything, I’m just nosy lmao
Not intrusive at all! Please know that any time I've mentioned a thing in passing but haven't really elabourated on it anywhere it is without a doubt because I assume no one wants to hear about it, so I just end up making oblique references to it for my own joy and hope that someone will be kind enough to tell me they want to know more lmao.
So, Haunted Mansion. At Disneyland. My official name for it would be Dance Macabre and it does come with a "soundtrack" (read: Spotify playlist)! Not sure at any given time how much of the various and sundry lore that exists for the ride, so this may be a bit difficult to parse...
To start with, there is a house in New Orleans - but not the one you're thinking of. Once upon a time, Emeritus Mansion was a hotbed of spiritual activity and the talk of the occult community. (It's rumoured to sit on a direct portal to Hell, you know.) Nowadays, however, it's not much more than a ghost of its former glory. Oh, sure, you could call it a museum, but Madame Imperator - she's the curator - seems more interested in discussing your past (and future...and fortune) than that of the Mansion. And her masked attendants? Well, they don't say much of anything. Kinda spooky!
Anyway, the whole property is cursed. We've known that for decades - what with all the staff going went missing, the demons, that witch trying to claim the Mansion's power and secrets for herself, all three of those missing brides, the last rightful owner going mad and slaughtering the whole family before hanging himself in the foyer...
Well, not the whole family. Pretty sure the children got out - all three of his sons. Or was it four? Hm. That's who I hear's been sniffing around the place, back to claim their piece of this bloody, horror-filled legacy. (And Madame Imperator does not seem thrilled about it, I tell you what.)
Awful timing, too - what with Devil's Night on the horizon. Same night, every year, Emeritus Mansion comes alive. It sounds like some kind of a ball (aside from the screaming), but I don't know anyone who has ever been stupid enough to try and find out. Because as we all know, foolish mortals, that is the time when Ghosts are present, practicing their terror with Ghoulish delight...
