thinking about the bat as a symbol and how a lot of those who use it as symbol see themselves as tied to death (you love everyone, everyone you love dies, etc) but also that their fate will end it death and it’s so intriguing like . bruce announcing "father, i'm afraid i may have to die tonight" in batman year one + how cass's first batgirl volume is called "deathwish" bc that's what babs keeps telling her she has + babs talking about getting over her fears as batgirl (omg why did my phone autocorrect that to gay girl???) and even tho she saw herself as less fearless in the face of danger/death than bruce (which . i disagree w) but that she’s willing to die to protect innocents (491-3 arc and bg 88 special) + in so many of steph’s early issues of batgirl babs keeps asking her if she has a deathwish + ra's telling talia he'd rather not see her wear a widow's shroud bc bruce WILL die (in progeny of the demon i think) + later dick calling being batman a shroud (in b&r09) . thinking……
