[The colors of a soulmark meant something. It represented the bond between the two people it connected: blue for honesty, yellow for happiness, red for passion, and so on and so forth. Most all documented soulmarks are a mix of colors; such as an orange, yellow, and pink butterfly, or a blue and yellow flower. It could even be a rainbow colored heart.

Danny's mark is only two colors. Only two. Red…

And black.

He used to stand in the mirror looking at himself and wondering what it meant. Black was unheard of. The doctors hadn't known what to make of it, and no amount of googling had helped him figure it out.

He would stare at it for what felt like hours. It was black as night. Black as the endless abyss of the ocean's trenches. Darker than the void of a black hole. Sometimes he thinks he can feel the thorny vines pulling him in, wrapping around him tighter and tighter.

Many a night Danny had awoken clutching at his throat, feeling like he couldn't breathe. He's not a psychic and he doesn't believe in fate. But he knows he's right when he thinks his soulmate will one day kill him.]
