When I listen to ‘Time Go Fishing’ from Project Hail Mary, and it gets to that intense bit at 4:20? I can imagine Ryland Grace is thinking about all those people back on Earth that are growing anxious about the state that they are in.

Here in space, hes away and somehow safe from the cold and danger on Earth. Then he begins thinking of his students and how terrified they must be for their lives and what their future is. And he remembers one of his students almost inconsolable, crying, “We’re all gonna die!”

The future of humanity as a whole. How they will grow anxious. Scared. Angry. Hungry. They’ll tear each other apart for scraps if he fails.

Then Stratt’s insults run clean through his head about how hes expendable and doesn’t have a family.

He may not have a family to save, but he has multiple species’s lives in the palm of his hand.

And that’s why he leaps.

Adding my prompt ideas to the bucket of Simon and Grace, may I present:

Rocky and the Eridians building Simon his own personal house next door to Grace.

Rocky and Grace making a gift basket of games, drinks, and an extra diary to write out his thoughts. Grace having extra ramen to gift for food.

Simon being like, “…Thanks,” and wishing him a good night.

Rocky and Grace head back to his house. Rocky pushes him and says ‘MAKE HIM FOOD.’

“What? Hes got some.”

‘NO. YOU COOK. MORE FRIENDLY. HARD CRUNCHY FOOD BAD BAD.’

So Grace thinks, Sure, baking and cooking for another human could be nice after all this time.
