I know this is probably an unpopular opinion but I actually think Mitch Wilkinson is a better villain than Ian Howe (although no disrespect to Sean Bean, he's a legend). Ian was mostly just greedy, but Mitch is driven by an over-inflated sense of ego and an unhealthy obsession with his family legacy and making his mark on history. Both of which make him more reckless and even more willing to callously endanger everyone else's lives. He baits Ben into hunting for Cibola which gets him in a number of precarious situations, threatens both of Ben's parents and then takes his mom hostage, insists on jumping off the counterweight platform under Mount Rushmore first even though this risks leaving everyone else to fall to their deaths, forces Ben to hold the door open so he can get out through the flooded tunnel and would've left him there were it not for sheer luck, etc.

I think he's far more selfish because he's willing to go to any length to get what he wants, regardless of who might die in the process. At the very least Ian let Abigail and Riley go once he had the Declaration, and he actually seemed to care about Shaw when he died. The only person Mitch cares about is himself
