They considered saying yes before seeing the scary look on the guy's eyes then go "No, no, he uh-"

"He was just being dramatic, runs in the family, you see, my ge here is also like that!"

So @swordbunnies 's birthday was- months ago, and it's taken me far too long to finish this, but! Here it is! It's from chapter 3 of their fic "Music Paints A Picture", in which Wangxian come home to find Lan Qiren asleep with babies A-Yuan and Jingyi.

Godxian AU who ascended because as the Founder and Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation who then purged the Burial Mounds with that same cultivation, folks prayed to him as a means to fight fire with fire. If they give him offerings, ~surely~ the Yiling Laozu will cast his curses and bring misfortune elsewhere. With this mindset, they don’t dare build distasteful temples and erect ugly statues.

Godxian isn’t happy about being labeled an “evil” god, but he supposes people are at least asking for protection versus the downfall of others in various (gross) ways. Not that those prayers don’t exist; they’re just surprisingly fewer than he thought. Also, he is able to sway folks into offering all sorts of spicy food, lest they want to offend the YLLZ and cause calamity to befall themselves or loved ones. In addition, he gets a bit of a kick out of the righteous sects attempting to dissuade his worship and dismantle his temples but can’t argue when the people claim that their prayers are working, and they don’t have to empty their coffers to hire the sects. They are further bolstered by the esteemed HGJ’s defense of them, citing that the YLLZ a) purged the legendary Burial Mounds, which facilitated the revival of Yiling as a city; and b) has thus far protected and not harmed. He goes even further by bringing at least one jar of Emperor’s Smile as an offering whenever he knows he will pass one of Godxian’s shrines or temples.
