Hello humans & guess who's back from the pits of hell, often referred to as terms? This girl right here. ✨ So to celebrate the end of my exams and Diwali (the Indian festival of lights), I thought I'd share my most anticipated read with you, using Diwali as my theme. #Inkredia by Sarang Mahajan ( @authorsarang ) has been trending massively on #bookstagramindia For a while now, & man am I glad to discover this book! It is one of the only high fantasy books written by an indian author I've heard of, & being an ambitious writer of fantasy myself, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. It is honestly so gratifying to see someone laying down the foundation for something you've wanted to see for the longest time, in my case, more Indian writers to be discovered and recognized by the fantasy writing community. I am glad Sarang Mahajan is playing a role in that revolution. Will this book be worth the hype? Judging by the insane amount of positive feedback it has been receiving so far about its masterful world-building & intricate plot, I highly doubt it will be an uninteresting read. But I guess I'll have to wait a while before I can decide for myself how well earned the excitement was(my TBR pile is already burying me alive guys). But in any case, I can assure you, this book WILL find its way into my blog. What better way to spend the dawn of Independence Day than to read about the intricacies of the land we call our home?

Finally picked up Indian Realities: In Bits and Pieces off of my shelf today. Sham Lal, referred to as one of the most erudite personalities to have graced the editor's cabin, gifted us with a collection of over a hundred writings from his time as a columnist, which spanned for over forty years.

I bought this book a few years back and never got around to completing it.This lies way farther off from my general liking for fiction. So much to learn. So little time.

Here's to India and to her paradoxical independence!

Was kind of having a bad day so decided to take a stroll down memory lane. God knows those always work. Not to mention, staying in touch with books makes me feel a thousand times better about everything. ✨ So I don't know how many of you have heard about Ruskin Bond. He is one of the most celebrated (and deservingly so) writers of India. I grew up reading quite a few of his books, including this little collection of short stories. My favorite bunch? Grandfather's Private Zoo, where the author talks about the delightful tales of his Grandfather's love for strange pets, including a monkey, Toto, a hornbill and even a boa constrictor! It's been a while since I've picked up his work, but I will again, soon. I remember these stories being as enjoyable to my teachers in school as they were to me, so I don't doubt for a second that if you're in the mood for a read that will make you smile, this is it. ✨ In fact, I'll be slowly posting my entire Ruskin Bond collection here. I see all sorts of authors discussed on bookstagram, but I don't think I've ever seen his name crop up, which is a shame. He is also one of the two authors I've seen in person, so yes that is pretty special to me. What makes a book tick? Especially a long one? Betty Smith's magnum opus skins your heart. There's a beautiful melody to it. And the reality of 1920's Brooklyn is a backdrop one is unwilling to shake. Francie Nolan is growing up & takes us along with her through the convoluted truths about her life that she discovers as her world expands. Her father is an alcoholic, her mother a scrubwoman and her brother the apple of her mother's eye. There was much to love about this story- foremost that Francie could claw her way out of that poverty because she was a reader. It helps she has a heart of gold. And she knows precisely what she deserves. The easy friendship between Francie & her brother, her & her father, Johnny Nolan, were particularly endearing. I love strong heroines. I like women doing well, breaking any kind of ceiling, or even just attempting to. Which is why Ms Nolan will stay with me for a long time and someone I will revisit again over the course of my life. All books come to us at the right time. I wish this fine one, with a name as poetic, had come to me sooner. Who else loves the anthology Black Sci-Fi Short Stories?? Which was your favorite story in the collection? The tales’ settings waver a sketch of time- from the times of subjugation and abuse to superheroes and the far-off future. Most sections are short stories, however, three are more similar to novella length. All accounts are elegantly composed. A few stories stand apart to me for an assortment of reasons. Two stories are outstanding as a result of their furious, melodious yet undaunted, exposition, which ends up highlighting the relationship of two dark females constrained into servitude. Slower than usual. Going through a lean phase of reading. Still reading but lesser and slower. Which is why the updates have dwindled. Any way I don't attempt to promise regularity because that's too much pressure and I find that I need more breaks from social media than others. How much is too much? Who knows?
