I forgot to post one of our volcano trips! Before heading to Yogyakarta we went to Bromo National Park, which is home to five volcanoes and the vast and lunar-like Sea of Sand. The big draw is Mt Bromo, an active volcano which pours out smoke and proves is ‘active’ status by the loud sounds that can be heard from within. The desert expanse that surrounds Bromo whips up dust with every gust of wind, and the precarious crater edge makes for preeeettty scary walking. It was completely different from Kawah Ijen, but beautiful in its own, desolate way.
