I read Intersectional Environmentalist a few months ago and really enjoyed it! This morning I discovered the author Leah Thomas has a collaborative YouTube channel under the same name [ here ].

It looks like they're starting to venture into short form video and are beginning to use the channel more regularly after some scattered uploads over the last few years. [ This ] video with host Arielle V. King, Nicholas Kee (keefarmshq), and Alexis Nikole (blackforager) on the ocean and climate and race is a lovely watch.

Does anyone know if there's any research about the connection between dehumanizing language and the creatures it invokes?

I'm interested in how animals become insults, and then how dehumanization might affect how animals are perceived. Like, are people less likely to be receptive to learning about the animals they compare others others to? Are bugs lovers less likely to fall for dehumanizing language?

Obviously, dehumanizing comparisons aren't always animals, and we should also be fighting for dehumanized groups by emphasizing that they are human. But surely education about stigmatized creatures can be a preventative tool in advocating for people as well right?

At the very least in promoting more critical and less reactionary thinking.

i think a lot of people mistake vegans for believing themselves to be "morally superior" rather than the actual, and very reasonable stance that IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION NOT TO KILL OTHER LIVING BEINGS, YOU SHOULDN'T DO IT.

most of us can understand that it's stupid to wield "oh so you think you're morally superior" against any type of human or environmental rights activists because how do you even respond to that? sure? Because its NOT ABOUT MORAL SUPERIORITY. IT'S ABOUT NOT UNNECESARILY CAUSING HARM.

Also, an activist could be the most annoying, self righteous person on the entire planet, but their stances having NOTHING to do with that. An asshole saying "trans rights" doesn't mean you shouldn't support trans rights because an asshole said it.

PLEASE start looking at veganism like you look at any other form of activism and resistance, and consider what disinformation and propaganda you've been fed about it.
