Can intersex variations be disabling or harmful? I hear bigots say they can, but I'd rather hear from an actual intersex person rather than a Trump bootlicker. Obviously, not ALL of them are, but I am curious, I don't want to be completely oblivious. Hopefully I worded this nicely and I'm not coming off as ignorant! I try to include all queer people in my art and support, but I'm not aware of how everything works, and Google is no help, y'know? Anyway, sorry for the rant! (TLDR: can intersex variations be disabling and/or harmful in any way?)

Thank you for the question, and the answer is yes, some variations can be painful and even disabling!

A very big example would be PCOS, a lot of people who have PCOS (not all, of course) can have debilitating cramps before/during/after menstruation, irregular periods, pelvic pain, and a higher risk of high blood pressure and diabetes, along with infertility.

Other variations that cause hypogonadism (such as hypoandrogenism or hypoestrogenism) could cause big issues such as erectile dysfunction, chronic fatigue, infertility, osteoporosis, and can affect mental health.

And there are some chromosomal variations such as turner's syndrome that can cause heart defects, kidney failure and infertility.

And there are many many more variations with more symptoms! A lot of doctors will often use these different symptoms as a way to fear monger about intersexuality to patients or parents of patients and will lead to people consenting to treatments or surgeries that are completely unnecessary.

People should have full informed consent to have different things that actually NEED treatment to be treated.

Clitoral hypoplasia is often defined as having a clitoris that is smaller than 2mm in diameter; that’s difficult to picture for many people.

Here are some images of ~2mm objects compared to body parts and other common objects.

Many people don’t understand why this variation ‘counts’ as intersex. It’s not just about appearance- Clitoral hypoplasia can affect sexual function or self esteem, and may cause body dysphoria or feelings of isolation.

I've been researching for over a year, and now, I'm making the bullet points I pulled from vulvar hypospadias studies (link) available for the public to read. There are drawn diagrams. It ranges from Anteriorly Deflected Urinary Stream (ADUS), female/vestibular/covered/hidden/functional hypospadias, urethral-hymen fusions, and a few other terms that are used.

These are not all the studies I have read or even have on hand, but ones I have created notes on. It's not pretty, but it's full of facts. Once I get the rest of the studies I have fleshed out with similar points, I'll come up with a better introductory post regarding vulvar hypospadias. Feel free to point out information that you feel should be included or even share this with anyone who may need it!

The amount of people who genuinely are incapable of considering intersex variations (in this case, vaginal atresia) astound me.

Not everyone is capable of inserting something into their vaginal canal.
