Intra league baby!!!!!

Yesterday was our first intra league game and whoever thought of the team names is a genius XD We are; Jewellery Slaughters Bournvillians Kings Heathens

If any of you know Birmingham that’s pretty epic XD

I jam timed for the 2nd official time and for the second time I lost or gained about 30 seconds from the score board. How I do it I really don’t know. Another thing I established was that actually, seeing as I have a bad shoulder and struggle to lift my arm above elbow height I probably shouldn’t jam time for a bit haha XD

Whoever split the teams up did very well as they were very evenly matched and the score was very close, it was great to see so many people trying things outside of their comfort zones like Jamming, bench managering and for some guys it was their first bout XD (yay for them)

The calibre of Derby was so good. I’m literally brimming with all the happy proud feels for my derby family.

We celebrated each others achievements and it was awesome. We are awesome !!! Bones out

Bout Day!

As there was no training last week, I wasn’t going to write a blog entry but I thought I would write a short one about my first bout day! We had no newbie training this week because there was an intraleague bout in it’s place. This was the first one I had been able to make since I found out about this sport, I was gutted to miss the last bout as the girls won! So, my league has 3 teams within it and 2 of them were playing each other on Sunday. I was drafted in to help out…standing on track rope to stick it down, making and selling cakes and I even took a few photos. Well, 1113 to be precise but who’s counting? It was amazing, all the girls that could make it, including the newbies, got involved. Dj’ing great music, taking stats, working the merch stall, there’s so much more than just the jams! The atmosphere was incredible, everyone who went seemed to have a great time and it is such an honour to be part of a brilliant community. I have always said that one of my favourite things about Roller Derby is how great everyone is to each other and Sunday could not have proved that more. Unfortunately there are no funny stories of me falling on my arse but there’s a fundraiser tonight for the league and skates aren’t the only thing that make me lose my balance! (Link below for anyone interested in seeing that!) I’ll report back in a few days time, after the first intake day since mine!

So we had an intraleague between three teams In the harlots and it was great! It gave newer skaters a chance to get acquainted with real pack scenarios and become used to getting hit and hitting. The three teams were made from a team skaters, nearly a team skaters,and newer skaters. The teams were the desperados, the bounty hunters and the outlaws. Needless to say the whole thing was glorious and if we could do it all Again we would in a heart beat. The desperados came out in first place! An amazing experience all in all and I urge every team to create the one. Panic over and out.
