The Portrait Of A Lady (1996).
Mysteriously, there is no fan art of my favorite doomed people (Isabel Archer and Ralph Touchett) on Tumblr, so here's a sketch based on a still from the 1996 Jane Campion film adaptation. Why is there no fandom for this? Is it because the source material (book, I mean) is too perfect? Or too perfectly devastating?
The world, in truth, had never seemed so large; it seemed to open out, all round her, to take the form of a mighty sea, where she floated in fathomless waters. She had wanted help, and here was help; it had come in a rushing torrent.

Irene Adler- Irene Adler is a fictional character in the Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A former opera singer and actress, she was featured in the short story “A Scandal in Bohemia”, published in July 1891. Adler is one of the most notable female characters in the Sherlock Holmes series, despite appearing in only one story. While not technically a criminal and bearing no malice towards Holmes, she outsmarts him and evades his traps. Sherlock Holmes refers to her afterwards respectfully as “the Woman”.
Evelyn carnahan-Evelyn Carnahan (later O’Connell) is the deuteragonist of The Mummy movie trilogy. At a young age, Evelyn acquired an interest in Egypt and its history.
