2016 Idol Games Golden Boy
On the 10th anniversary* of this memorable event (2016-2-9) I'm here to remind you that our Golden Maknae swept the competition away at ISAC, most notably being undefeated in the men's ssireum event.
Most of us remember him going in hard to defend Jin's honour in round 2, but what stuck with me was round 3, the final round.
Here's a little more context for this moment:
It was a nail-biting contest but JK was calm and strategic and he won (because of course he did). After winning the last round he clearly had one thing on his mind - or one person.
He was in such a hurry to get to that person, his handshake was a little perfunctory. He even walked into the midst of the BTS members who were excitedly trying to congratulate him, only to bypass them all and go directly to Jimin.
Grasping Jimin's forearms he looked directly into his Hyung's face as if to make sure his victory was noticed and acknowledged by the person he most wanted to impress**.
I made the horribly jerky gif to satisfy my need to focus on this.
There's only one person whose reaction he cares about
After making sure he had Jimin's attention he just.. moved past the other members to stand a little way apart with this look of supreme satisfaction.
The face that says 'underestimate me at your peril. I WILL succeed'.
I wonder if it was the ISAC games or his personal goals he was thinking about just then...

Happy (belated) Year of the Red Horse!
**That moment made me think of the trials faced by ancient Greek legendary figures who wanted to marry their love and had to prove their worth.
I laughingly thought maybe Jimin had set JK a few impossible tasks to achieve before he would give him any encouragement.
