LET’S GO, GUYS, WE’RE BACK WITH ANOTHER EPISODE OF THE BREAKDOWN!!!
Ah man, it’s really been awhile, let’s hop right into this with episode 9 (the fun one). Right off the bat, we’ve got the blue butterfly. It’s sort of early in the breakdown, but let’s go ahead and talk about the blue butterfly.
It appears at first sight to be a blue morpho, a species of butterfly native to the tropics of Latin America. It’s the right size as well, seeing as blue morpho butterflies have a wingspan of 5-8 inches.
However, the underside of this butterfly’s wings are bright blue, whereas the blue morpho has dull brown coloration on the underside of its wings (a neat camouflage mechanism!)
This butterfly could also be a monarch. Yes, monarch butterflies typically have vibrant orange coloration but hear me out.
Blue morphos are naturally occurring, whereas blue monarchs are not. This butterfly is obviously supernatural in essence, seeing as it seems to appear before every supernatural event (e.g. it appeared before the power outage at David’s house, before the demon knocked on the barn window, etc..) It also shows up in David’s dreams and can interact with the demon, further cementing its status as a supernatural being.
Blue monarchs are classic for having a supernatural affiliation in mythology in folklore. They are said to represent happiness, good luck, and a wish fulfilled. This makes sense, seeing as the butterfly was able to drive away the demon. Demons are the uncanny embodiment of fear and evil, so it’s natural that the opposite of it, light and goodness, would be able to harm it.
This may also have a connection to Delete (prequel to Lalin’s Curse). Please take this next part concerning the butterfly with a grain of salt, as it is mostly pure theory rather than researched fact.
I’ve mentioned before that David’s brown streak of hair is not only a consequence of his head injury but likely also symbolic of him earning his ‘Valor’, like a piece of Valor stayed with him (his streak and Valor’s hair are the same color). He used to be more of a pushover, as shown in the flashback.
But now he’s clearly willing to stand up to others to defend what he believes in, as seen when he argues with Cody. The only difference between the two instances of having his belief challenged is the timeline, he fought with Cody after the events of Delete. One can conclude, therefore, that this is a consequence of character development stemming from those events (even if David doesn’t remember it).
It wouldn’t be so far fetched to say that the blue butterfly is also symbolic of David’s character development. Although he clearly still exhibits self-deprecating tendencies, it’s also clear that he is a happier person than he was in Delete. The butterfly could represent his happiness, as well as having other supernatural significance.
Alright, I’m off the Delete tangent now.
In many folklores and cultures, the butterfly (specifically blue monarchs in some versions of lore) is seen as a symbol of someone’s soul. In Western European folklore, butterflies have the ability to pass into a plane of existence called the ‘Otherworld’. It’s basically the spirit world.
In earlier episodes, the thin black veins on the wings do not resemble the thick black markings of a monarch. However, in later episodes the black markings are extremely obvious and very deliberate.
So yeah that’s why i think it’s a monarch and not a morpho :)
WOW okay i just realized how long this breakdown is already. This episode is packed with information, so it may even be broken into 3 parts.
Thank you so much for reading! Have a nice day you fantastic human!
funky rats comin’ to kidnap you <33333

Welcome to part 2 of this theory episode! Let’s move on and talk about Felix.
As the most unathletic (likely due to his heart condition and him disliking exercise) it’s not strange that Felix is the slowest runner in the group.
But after they are done running, he basically collapses to the ground. As one observes the character interactions, it’s obvious he’s stressed. David is stressed too, and begins finger biting (as he usually does when worried or distressed)
But then, Eric says “we’ll visit your grave from time to time.”
And in bold letters, indicating a raised voice and sharp tone, Felix tells him to shut up.
Considering how worried both Felix and David are acting, and Felix’s reaction to Eric’s (rather insensitive) comment, I think Felix has nearly died before.
It also says in his bio that he dislikes hospitals. It’s very possible that he discovered this by being stuck in one. Perhaps he’s had a serious issue occur with his heart, and had to be hospitalized for a time. The reason he’s acting the was he does is because his condition scares him, and he’s scared of dying.
Now let’s talk about David! First up, the coward trigger.
Whilst Eric is being an idiot, he tells David:
Eric probably didn’t realize it, but that was not a good thing to say. As David is thinking later that night, we get some flashbacks from two years ago, just prior to/during the events of Delete.
As he’s thinking about his past bullies, there’s something very interesing about the main bully, his eyes. They appear to be extremely blue (basically glowing) with pupils narrowed to catlike slits. It seems that vibrant/glowy colors are not the go to for natural human characters. An example being that Cody’s human-appearing eyes are not a vibrant green, just normal and slightly desaturated hazel. And, Eric’s blue eyes aren’t spectacularly blue, but more of a normal(?) blue, like you’d expect to see on a real(?) person.
The only exception thus far to this is Noemi, with her purple eyes. She may be wearing color contacts (it certainly doesn’t seem out of character for her) or there may be much more to her than we know.
But i’m getting off subject-
I think that David’s bully was influenced or possibly possessed by the demon or possibly just a demon. Why do i think this? The bridge.
Look at it’s shape.
That very distinctive round shape, a shape that looks precarious and unsteady, belongs to a variety of bridges found across Europe known as ‘Devil’s Bridges’.
The lore behind these bridges is that a demon will make a contract with humans for them to sacrifice themselves on it so the demon can eat their soul, possess them, etc. The demon’s end of the bargain varies from tale to tale.
It’s quite possible that because David’s soul is so rare and unique (as stated by the demon) that the demon possessed or influenced someone else in order to drive David to the bridge, where he would kill himself and ultimately have his soul consumed by the demon.
If you’re curious to theories on David, what he is, and why his soul is special, I talk about that here: https://lalinscursetheories.tumblr.com/post/186987598187/theory-file-003
That same day when David is ruminating upon how Eric called him a coward, he also logged onto his computer to play video games.
This is, of course, strange. Because his computer was broken.
And this is where i start getting excited because hot dang this opens up another theory that i’d like to discuss maybe in a future episode.
DAVID IS THE ONE WHO FIXES THE COMPUTER!!!
Look at that frame!! It uses the same comic indicators as when David healed Felix’s injury in a later episode. (A comic indicator is a visual that could not exist in real life, such as an exclamation mark, or movement arc lines)
It doesn’t seem that David noticed the PC was fixed and then turned it on, it looks like he turned it on (touched it) and then it worked. If someone had made actual repairs to the PC, then the burn marks around the SD port probably wouldn’t be there any more.
What if this links to why the police chief needs David? What if he needs him to heal something or fix something, seeing as David can interact with biological, mechanical, and supernatural things.
Considering we don’t have much evidence yet into this theory, I’m going to leave it at that.
I’d love to hear what you guys think about this theory! You are always welcome to submit theories in the submission box or ask box, or ask questions! Thank you so much for reading and have a stellar day/night yo, byee
