I was wondering when Father Brown starts sucking, it is around season 10. And it is not even hard to guess why. The heart of a procedural/case of the week show is the recurring cast. Bunty was a great addition to the cast in the absence of Sid and Lady Felicia. She was instantly likeable and useful to FB. I have tried but I do not like Brenda or Isobel, Brenda's actress needs to toned down with constant shouting and weird facial overacting. Her needs a new thing. Isobel just does not leave a definitive mark. She's not her own person. She's a fan of father's crime solving, and is a bit of a sleuth, but I doesn't have a personality that feels like a friend to the viewer like Sid, Mrs M, Lady F. or Bunty. She needed to be work shopped some more. This season is not a fun watch, I just feel obligated to finish.
I have nothing against Claudie Blakley, that woman hasn't said or done nothing to me, personally. I'd say more: she played Charlotte Lucas in "P&P" 2005. I feel that character desperation as my own still today.
But the character. I feel bad for Blakley, since the character it's unbearable, insufferable. The blame is more on the scriptwriters.
Stop it.

FB SCRAPBOOK ; the show must go on septembleford day 29 — practice (alt prompt)
i am never getting over sullivan’s silly little outfit and his v autistic shakespeare obsession in this ep tbh
can’t stop thinking about the cultural implications of father brown s12 ep2 for the in-universe timeline
like,, an amateur dramatics group in a random village has just redefined the murder mystery genre (completely by accident). their opening night was a spectacular trainwreck — lightning in a bottle when they were trying to catch rain — and now, somehow, they’re expected to recreate it
a sergeant is playing the detective inspector. an actual detective inspector is playing the priest. an actual priest is playing the dead guy. one of the actors is playing two people on stage at the same time for no apparent reason, and at the end the actual detective inspector / fake priest gets stuck in the curtains. you cannot convince me this wouldn’t go on to become a ridiculously popular show with a committed, slightly obsessive group of fans
so.. did they extend the run? did sullivan find himself playing a priest for a lot longer than he expected, find himself missing the cassock and the stage makeup when they had a day off? did it keep going even after they’d given it up, with a new cast and a new location? do the group sometimes get stopped in the street by people asking for autographs or telling them how much they love the show, how they like the new cast but they really miss the original run? did sullivan’s father have an aneurysm when he realised his son’s name is forever tied to The First Comedy/Murder-Mystery Play? god.. so many questions
