Fullmetal Alchemist is my favorite anime of all time (and if I’m being honest, the only one I’ve *actually* watched). The story is amazing and obviously I love anime/manga as an art form as well.
I was inspired to do this piece by both a reference photo I saw online and a YouTube video by LethalChris Drawing.
Al is my precious cinnamon bun, so of course I had to draw him 🥰 it was also a very fun piece to play around with. I have never really worked with a more monotonous color palette before, so working with a mostly gray palette was an exciting challenge.
I love shading but I always find myself afraid to do it! I feel like the lines are just too harsh, etc. But the truth is that real life shadows are not blended into things, they are a stark contrast. So it’s taken some getting used to, playing around with shading as well.
I’m not as good as posting my art on here like I should be, unfortunately, so please check out my art Instagram @bymckenziemarie! ❤️

“everything is figureoutable”
lazy rainy day afternoon; I have to work later tonight but I had therapy this morning and am getting ahead on some japanese lit notes (while simultaneously watching b99, of course, because I’m officially obsessed) 🌟
some photos from my December bujo spread 🎄
sketchbook update!!!
yesterday I drew 4 new things. FOUR! sounds dramatic but for someone who hasn’t drawn in ages, this is big for me haha. I probably should have been studying for my finals though 🤷🏻♀️
I added little Pride, my baby 2003 Wrath, & a random chibi Al because I had the smallest bit of space left and why not?
I kind of feel like each of these just got progressively worse...but hey, I’m drawing something. that’s progress!
I also did a self portrait not featured here. I was really scared to do my hair (I have blonde balayage) because all the hair I’ve done here, as you can see, is pretty much just black. so it was a bit of a challenge! but it was exciting to try something new and get out of my comfort zone. I’ll post a pic when I do more on that page.
I also added the thick black outline to add to the cartoon effect and I really liked how it turned out! overall I am so happy with this page, especially because it’s the very first page in my sketchbook and I think it’s pretty dang good for someone who has been out of it for quite a while.
I might add some shadows to Pride, we’ll see. I liked this style but I’d like to experiment more with different things! that’s my number one goal over break. now I just have to decide what to draw next...something Christmas-y I think!
another doodle from the other day - beej & lyds!!!
also me trying out different signatures hehe

I repainted my Bible again and I’m SO stinkin’ happy about it ✨
so funny story, yesterday at around noon I just got really inspired and really wanted to repaint my Bible cover again. I didn’t even have a plan, I just went for it. All of a sudden I was slapping a fresh coat of white paint all over and thinking oh boy...what have I gotten myself into?! so I managed to finish this whole cover in less than a day somehow, some way.
I’ve been loving this lyric lately, “make my messes matter, make this chaos count.” (from “Jupiter” by Sleeping At Last) it sounds like a prayer to me. Asking God to take this hot mess, take this struggle, this chaos, and turn it into something beautiful; because I know all things work for his good. which lead me to the verse on the back: “fully convinced that God was able to do as he had promised.” Reminding myself, as I am about to reenter this busy season college student life, that He is good and He can use me for good, too. And that my messes, my struggles, my chaos, they are all worth it. ♥️
my vision board for 2019 ✨
