There was a subreddit that popped up on r/all for me recently called r/HarryPotteronHBO, a post about some characters that had just received their casting announcements for the new HBO Harry Potter show. 

I was intrigued to see what the discourse on that sub would be regarding J.K. Rowling’s politics, and was confused when there wasn’t a single word about it…

…until I saw the subreddit rules.

One of their rules states that discussing her politics is not allowed, with the following explanation:

“To maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment, this subreddit does not allow discussions about J.K. Rowling’s political beliefs, public statements, or involvement in real-world political or social issues.

This community is for fans who want to discuss the upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO and the wider universe including the books and films. Conversations about the author’s personal views often lead to division, heated arguments, and discomfort for members who simply want to enjoy the world of Harry Potter.

We recognize that J.K. Rowling’s political commentary has affected how many people engage with the franchise, and understand that her activism has negatively impacted transgender individuals. However, this subreddit exists to focus on the fictional world and to give fans of all backgrounds a space to enjoy that world without being drawn into broader political debates.”

Obviously, this is a load of horseshit. 

If you’re literally saying, “we recognize that we’re promoting the work of someone who is actively harming a marginalized community buuuuut…”, feel free to stop right there and begin reflecting on why you value your entertainment more than the lives of other people.

You know she’s harming trans people.  You know she’s using her wealth to do it.  You know promoting her new show will add to her wealth.

You know your promotion of the show is harming trans people.

The rule begins with, “To maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment…”

There is nothing inclusive about promoting content that harms marginalized communities, especially when you recognize that the content is doing harm.  You don’t have the ability to say “I had no idea!”, you’re literally acknowledging that she’s doing harm. 

Just say what you really mean.  Just say that you don’t care about trans people.

I’m more mad that you’re pretending to be inclusive.

Listen, I loved Harry Potter growing up, I did!  I was the same age as Harry as the books came out and it was touching and fun to read.

…but sometimes we need to decouple ourselves from things we used to enjoy when they cause harm. 

In the case of Harry Potter, it’s not like there aren’t other fantasy book series out there, there’s plenty to choose from!  If you’re still consuming Harry Potter content in 2025, just admit that you value your nostalgia more than other peoples’ lives. 

At least you won’t be a liar.

Christmas At The Burrow

Love yall!

Characters: Fred Weasley X Fem!Reader

Summary: Spending christmas with your boyfriend at The Burrow

The burrow was always magical this time of year.

There were fairy lights tangled around the stair banister, paper chains that definitely weren't symmetrical, and a slightly lopsided Christmas tree that leaned just enough for Mrs. Weasley to sigh every time she walked past it. The house smelled like cinnamon, pine needles, and something sweet baking in the oven.

It felt lived in.

Warm.

Loud.

You'd barely taken your coat off before Ginny had pulled you into the kitchen to help ice biscuits, Ron had stolen one off the tray, and Mrs. Weasley had scolded him without looking up from stirring porridge on the stove.

"You've got hands Ron" she'd said. "Use them to help instead of stealing."

"I was quality testing." Ron defends back with food in his mouth

"You've been quality testing since you were born dear."

By the time evening settled outside, snow had begun to fall properly.

Everyone migrated into the sitting room, where the fire crackled so loudly it almost drowned out George and Bill arguing over some Muggle game they'd found..Uno or something like that...

Fred had disappeared for a few minutes.

You noticed because you always did.

A moment later he appeared in the doorway and tilted his head toward the hall.

"You coming?"

You narrowed your eyes.

"Why?"

"So suspicious."

"I've known you long enough."

He grinned.

"Fair."

Still, you followed. The second the sitting room door closed behind you, the noise softened into a distant blur. Fred sat down on a step on the stairs.

"What are you up to?" you asked.

"Nothing."

"Liar."

He laughed under his breath before reaching for your hand.

"I just wanted five minutes where George wasn't interrupting every sentence."

"He does have impressive timing." You sit down next to him

"s'scary sometimes.." Fred Chuckles

The hallway was dim except for the glow of fairy lights wrapped around the banister.

Outside the little window beside the stairs, snow drifted quietly across the garden.

For a minute, neither of you spoke.

He rubbed lazy circles over the back of your hand with his thumb, and kissed you temple.

"You've got icing on your nose."

"Please tell me i don't..."

"You absolutely do."

He stepped closer.

"Could require immediate medical attention."

"Oh, really?"

"Mhm."

Before you could answer, he leaned down and kissed you.

It was quick.

Warm...so...Fred

The sort of kiss that made you smile before it had even ended.

When he pulled back, he looked unnecessarily pleased with himself.

"There."

You laughed, reaching up to straighten the collar of his jumper.

"It's crooked."

"It's fashion."

"Fred, It's crooked."

"It's artistic."

"Did you get dressed in the dark again..."

"I probably did."

"You definitely did."

He caught your wrist before you could pull your hand away and pressed another kiss to your knuckles.

"You know," he said, "I like Christmas better now."

"Oh?"

"Mhm."

"You've had twenty of them."

"And?"

"What changed?"

He shrugged one shoulder.

"You started coming."

The words were so matter-of-fact they caught you off guard.

No grand declaration. No dramatic pause. Just the truth.

You looked at him for a second before leaning up to kiss him yourself.

Nearly losing yourself in the moment.

Mrs. Weasley's voice suddenly echoed from the kitchen.

"Fred!"

He closed his eyes.

"See?"

"You should answer."

"If I don't move, maybe she'll think I'm George."

"We're kissing.."

Another shout.

"Fredrick Gideon Weasley!"

You bit your lip to stop yourself laughing.

"And that's your cue!"

His eyes widen almost comically as he sprints towards the kitchen

"I need these into the attic." Molly was holding two boxes full of extra christmas decorations she couldn't find space for in the house.

Fred looked at you with exaggerated despair.

You failed to hide your grin.

"Oh dear," you said. "However will you cope? Quidditch not give you enough muscles?"

"Traitor."

"You'll live."

He hoisted the two boxes with a theatrical groan.

Halfway up the attic ladder, Fred looked back over his shoulder.

"You know, I'm being terribly brave."

"Good job Freddie, you're doing amazing sweetie..."

"I deserve sympathy."

"Look at you go!"

Fred flexes his biceps from the top of the ladder.

Mrs. Weasley cleared her throat.

"Frederick."

He looked heavenward.

"See? Even romance has supervision in this house."

You laughed so hard you had to steady yourself against the banister.

Later that night, after dinner had somehow stretched into pudding, card games, and George insisting everyone wear ridiculous enchanted cracker hats, the house finally quieted.

People drifted off to bed one by one.

You stepped outside for a breath of cold air.

Snow covered the garden in a smooth blanket, untouched except for a few crooked footprints leading to the shed.

The cold nipped at your cheeks immediately.

The back door creaked open.

"I knew you'd be out here."

You turned to find Fred carrying two mugs.

"Hot chocolate?"

"Ooo yes please."

He handed you one before leaning against the porch railing beside you, wrapping his arms around you.

Neither of you said much.

There wasn't much to say.

The snow kept falling.

The windows of the Burrow glowed gold against the dark.

Fred kissed the top of your head lightly.

"Merry Christmas, Love"

You looked up at him. Leaning your head on his chest.

"Merry Christmas, Freddie"

People who say “if you read this book you are unsafe to be around” are the people who actually are unsafe to be around. Never listen to anyone who tells you it’s wrong just to consider ideas, just to experience art with your critical thinking skills fully intact. Good lord.
