part 2B, Sabo ending because I like the idea of multiple endings.
Sitting on the couch with Sabo, your knees tucked up under your chin, the blond’s arm around you, you couldn’t help the sniffles that came out. Ace had been ignoring both you and Sabo for the last week and it was killing you.
“We used to be such close friends, now he doesn’t even talk to me.” you whimpered, the blond rubbing your shoulder comfortingly, “Sabo, what did I do wrong? Why won’t he talk to me? We’re supposed to be best friends, but best friends don’t treat each other like this, right?” you asked, the boy nodding.
“No, best friends don’t treat each other like this. It’ll be okay, I promise. Just wait, he’ll come around. He’ll realize what he did wrong and he’ll come around, he’ll apologize and you can be friends again.” Sabo soothed, pulling you closer so that your head rested on his shoulder. It was about half an hour before you headed home to get some sleep. You hadn’t been sleeping too well lately, too worried about your friend to sleep real well. Sabo had stayed at your apartment a few times in an attempt to help, holding you and comforting you until you passed out, head resting against his chest as you slumbered. Had the situation been a little different, Sabo would have been ecstatic to be staying the night at your place, to have you sleeping against him, but he was too worried about not only you, but his brother as well. It wasn’t long before Ace came home, a deep frown on his face as he entered the apartment, turning the corner only to go stumbling back once he’d entered the living room, his cheek stinging, Sabo standing a little ways away, fist outstretched from where he’d just punched his brother.
“What the fuck?!” Ace demanded, holding his cheek as he glared at Sabo.
“Seriously? You’re asking me that? I should be the one wondering what the fuck! Where the hell have you been for the past week? Y/n and I have both sent text and voicemail after voicemail looking for you!” Sabo shouted, standing up fully again, stomping over to his brother and grabbing the dark haired young man by the collar of his shirt, “She’s been absolutely distraught, thinking you hate her! First it was just that you were more irritable, but now she comes here sobbing that you won’t talk to her! I’ve comforted her every night for the last 5 days as she waits for you to get your ass over here, for you to call her, for something to show that you still care! You’re supposed to be her best friend, you’re the one who’s supposed to comfort her! You’re the one who’s supposed to tell her everything is alright!” Sabo added, Ace finally twisting out of his brother’s grip, pushing the blond away.
“Why does she need me when she has you? Clearly you’re her best friend now!” Ace yelled back, holding his own tears in. He was used to holding back his tears.
“Except I don’t want to be her best friend!” Sabo yelled back, shocking his dark haired brother.
“W-what?” Ace asked, much quieter now.
“I said I don’t want to be her best friend, you idiot, and if you paid a lick of attention, you’d know that.” Sabo hissed, still glaring at his brother.
“But… I thought that you were hanging out so we could be friends, so you could get closer.” Ace said, still in shock.
“So I could date her! The day you introduced her to us I fell head over heels for her! She’s the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen! But I didn’t know her, she was your best friend, I figured if I hung out with you two, spent all my time with you two I could get to know her, eventually ask her out, but then you had to go and shove your head up your ass and ignore her!” Sabo spat, not caring about how shocked his brother was.
“Y-you’re not trying to steal her away though? You’re not trying to take my best friend from me? She… she still wants to be friends?” Ace asked quietly, hoping that he wasn’t quivering.
“Of course not, you moron. She’ll always be your best friend and she doesn’t want to change a thing. Why in the hell would you think I’m trying to change that?” Sabo questioned, looking curiously at his brother. Ace just looked down, telling Sabo all he needed to know. The blond walked back up to his brother, smacking him upside the head.
“Fucking idiot. Just because you don’t think you’re worth her friendship doesn’t mean she thinks so too.” Sabo scolded, shaking his head. Ace grumbling as he rubbed his head as if he’d been wounded.
“I didn’t know you were interested in her… you know… if my brother wanted to date my best friend, I wouldn’t be opposed.” Ace said, giving his brother a slightly guilty smile. Sabo chuckled, shaking his head.
“How many times do I have to call you an idiot in the next hour?” Sabo questioned, rolling his eyes, “I’m glad that you approve.” he added.
“Of course I approve! My best friend and my brother! There’s no better pairing!” Ace exclaimed, his foul mood dropping in an instant, becoming his old excited self once more.
“Yeah, great, now once you apologize to her for being an idiot, maybe I can spend some more time with her so I can finally ask her out.” Sabo grumbled.
“Why do you need to wait?” a quiet, meek voice called from behind them, making both boys jump, Sabo spinning around to face you. You rubbed your arm nervously, staring at the brothers.
“Y-Y/n, w-what are you doing here?... W-when did you get here?” Sabo asked, horrified about what you’d heard.
“I realized I left my cell phone here. Since you gave me a key, I figured I’d let myself in when I heard Ace asking why I need him.” you muttered, blushing as you thought about the words that came after that. The color drained from Sabo’s face. You’d heard everything he’d said after that, you’d heard his confession, heard him tell his brother how he felt.
“Is… is it true? D-do you like me?” you asked, still nervous. Sabo went from pale as a ghost to red as a tomato in 0.5 seconds, the blush crawling down his neck and up his ears, unable to say anything.
“Of course he does!” Ace chimed in for his brother, a grin on his face, “And once I apologize for being an idiot, you should go on a date with him!” you smiled, walking over to Ace, throwing your arms around his neck.
“So we can be best friends again?” you asked, tearing up as the boy hugged you back.
“Of course, I’m really sorry. You should also date Sabo too, did I mention he’s a great brother? He spent all this time trying to get me to see that I was being an idiot and he comforted you. He’s a great guy.” Ace said, shamelessly promoting his brother who stood, still beet red, to the side. You laughed, pulling away from Ace.
“You know, best friends who’ve fucked up should have to pay for the entire date between his best friend and brother.” you bribed, making Ace laugh.
“What if I don’t? Will you not go on a date with him?” Ace teased, looking at his brother who tensed up at the though.
“Of course I’ll still go on a date with him, I’ll just hit you for it.” you said with a laugh. Ace laughed as well as Sabo slowly reached out, tapping you on the shoulder, drawing your attention back to him.
“So uh, maybe this Saturday? I could pick you up? 7 maybe?” Sabo asked, still blushing as he rubbed the back of his neck. Another angelic laugh left your lips.
“I’d love that.” you said, putting your hands on his shoulders to pull him down a little, reaching up and kissing his cheek. Sabo was pretty sure his head blew up, Ace throwing his arms around you and Sabo, a large grin on his face.
“My brother and my best friend. This is perfect!” Ace said happily. You smiled as well. While you’d have Sabo now, while you might be dating Ace’s brother now, Ace was your best friend again, he’d always be your best friend.
