i LOVE LOVE when the flashback elevate the present so much!!!!

if they show khem and jet's friendship like that from the first ep, it would not hit as hard as right now, when the audience has been through so many things with them. i instantly tear up at khem promised to not leave jet because i know how precious their bond is, how much they love and care about each other and how much it hurts khem seeing his friend suffered. cried a lot but 100/10 no notes 😭

Favorite Things: Khemjira rewatch - episode 2

Episode 1

Trying to binge the series before the finale on Saturday and not sure if we're going to make it. These episodes are loooooong! We're keeping notes for posts, but there are only so many hours in the day, so these post will likely come later.

Favorite take away: Introduction to the past lives

This is the episode where we first learn that Peem and Khem were together in a past life. They only give us the tiniest hint at this point with no real back story yet, but they tease that Yod is also from that past life. Exciting!

We couldn't help but notice the multiple shots of twin moons which made us do a quick google search for the meaning. It feels to us like it's a visual representation of Khem's past life bleeding into his current one. There are multiple shots of the moon, but only twice do we see the green twin moon; once when Peem and Khem are on the bike together and again before Yod shows up at the end of the episode. Additionally, it could signify a thinning of the barrier between the physical and spiritual realms, the duality of fate, a symbol of change, or signify the conflict between light and dark. But since the moons are shown as transitions to scenes involving Khem and people from his past life, we like this theory. If anyone has any information or theories about this, please share!

Favorite things we obsessed over during the rewatch:

The scene with Peem and his grandfather! So many things hit harder during the rewatch. Peem saying he will help Khem when the times comes, but the Grand Master warns him not to get involved. Sek used black magic and reveals that is what caused the death of Peem's mom. Peem uses white magic and his duty is to protect the village. Sek makes Peem promise not to get interfere with someone else's karma.

It was so fun seeing Peem using powers to destroy the ghosts, but we saw there was a physical cost that Peem tries to hid it even from Thong and Ake, waiting for them to leave before giving over to his exhaustion. This feels like foreshadowing. Peem's body can only handle so much contact with the divine.

Peem refusing to help Khem and revealing that Grand Master Sek made him promise not to get involved. And even when Khem begs, Peem firmly rejects him 😭

Charn acting on his own to find help when no one else was doing anything about the domestic violence.

Jet getting his vision back temporarily and being able to see Ake and Thong

Yod saving Khem from ghost... now we know why!

Yod going full stalker sitting on Khem's bed only to become enraged when he can't touch Khem. The episode ends when he dramatically confronts Peem.

This episode had a lot to say about domestic violence, but that's an entirely different post. It was heavy, but we appreciated the way this topic was explored and portrayed in this episode.

Favorite Scenes from episode two:

Favorite moment Khem won and knows it: Khem trying to win Peem over with his cooking only to be told it's alright and then dismissed coldly. Khem's cute little pout as he leaves and then Peem eagerly eating all the food as soon as he's gone only to get busted when Khem returns.

Favorite scene where Jet is too obvious: Jet making heart eyes at the sleeping Charn right in front of everyone's salads. 🤣 @alienwlw has an epic post of this moment!

Favorite scene that hurt: The bicycle scene... this was heavy the first time and even more so on the rewatch. Peem literally telling Khem, "Love isn't always enough to make things work. If being together only leads to problems, why bother?" He may be talking about Worn and Rae, and he may have been answering Khem's question, but we are sure this is what he has been saying to himself. Big feels. And then they gotta twist the knife by making us watch Khem cry!

I absolutely love how we got a whole flashback to when khem and jet met it is just a true testament of how close their friendship is. And it shows how well jet knows khem!! which is why it's so so meaningful seeing that he is coming to khem because he's not going to let him walk out on them and especially on his own life he's not going to ever stop loving and helping him as long as he shall live! he was so kind to him in the beginning and immediately took him in as a friend that he saw from the beginning that was going to be with him for a very long time 😭😭😭😭🚬
