According to Greek myth, Pygmalion (King of Cyprus) carved an ivory statue of a woman, later brought to life by Aphrodite. Called Galatea, he married her and they had 1 or 2 children depending on the version of the tale.

Such jetons were made for accounting or gaming (gambling) purposes.
