SHE CAME BACK WRONG
No one haunts the narrative quite like Dichen Lachman. Twice now, she's played (to my knowledge) women whose death haunts the main character and is the main motivator for the plot. Trice actually, if we count AoS. And all those times it was a similar case of believing them to be dead but they're alive - in Altered Carbon she was the sister who turned out to be alive and evil and ended up dying in the MCs arms after they kill her. In Agents of Shield she was Daisy Johnson's mother, who turned out to be alive and turned evil, again dying in her arms after she kills her. I wonder if Severance is heading this way too...
I'm rewatching a lot of xmcu and mcu lately, Jiaying (Agents of Shield) has so much in common with Magneto. Since the mcu didn't have rights to mutants, they used inhumans as a stand in, so I wouldn't be suprised if they took some inspiration. Jiaying is basicially an inhuman magneto for the story.
Both Erik and Jiaying have been experimented on by Nazis in World War 2 because of their powers. Erik by Shaw (in the movies at least) and Jiaying by Hydra and Whitehall.
In the comics, Erik kills an entire village in revenge after loosing his daughter Anya. In Xmen: Apocalypses he does something similar when he looses Nina. Jiaying (and her husband) did the same when they lost their daughter Daisy. While Daisy didn't die, Jiaying has lost a child before.
They have both become leaders to a hidden safehaven for their kind. Erik founded Genosha and Jiaying guided new Inhumans in Afterlife and was seen as a respected elder.
They've both tried to turn everyone into mutants/inhumans on a global scale, despite knowing this would likely kill many humans.
They've met their child through timetravel shenanigans, their other timeline version died. Peter met Erik earlier than in the original timeline thanks to a timetraveling Wolverine and Daisy met a pre-Hydra version of her mother in season 7 of Agents of Shield. Wolverine travelled to 1973. The shield team to 1983.
Both also tried to kill their child at least once, although to be fair, Erik didn't know. Said children are also crazy powerful and in the case of Peter and Daisy, only met their parent at like 26.
So, I'm watching Reunion: The Sound of Providence (Season 2, Episode 9 to be exact) and I can't help but take notice of this scene:
You might not notice anything strange, but take a look at the right corner of the image on the TV screen.
Is that... Glen Talbot? Graviton? Are they watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
I mean, it looks a lot like it.
At this point, I realized there was some sort of watermark on this part of the video that was warping the image, but I'm pretty sure that's Fitz, right?
I think the subtitles mentioned Daisy, but it's too blurred. It could be another name.
Again, watermark warping makes it hard to tell, but I think that's Jemma? Maybe Yo-Yo?
Okay, I clearly see the word "Centipede," and I'm pretty sure the one that follows it is "serum." That just has me more convinced.
The mention of Jiaying in the subtitles confirmed it for me. This is definitely Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
This shot is a bit blurry, but I thought I should get a shot of the subtitles just in case.
Oh yeah, that is definitely Fitz! Hi my boy!
And Mack! Hi Mack!
I know this is probably a wicked long post and people browsing the DMBJ and AOS tags are probably pissed, but it's not every day my favorite secret agents make a cameo appearance on a Chinese tomb raiding show!
Deke's there, too! Oh, and it looks like Pangzi has something to say about the show!
I'm not going to comment on that.
Daisy: *grabs a picture frame* Ah this is Jiaying, my mother. She was insane.
Deke: Yeah she looks kind of wild.
Daisy: No I mean clinically. So was my dad
Deke: *disturbed*
Ming-Na Wen: *is from Macau and speaks better Cantonese than mandarin let's be real*
Dichen Lachman: *is a quarter Nepalese, a quarter Tibetan and half German*
May and Jiaying: *speaks in mandarin*
Me: *a Chinese Malaysian* Oh dear.
