Perfectionist ceramicist who makes trinkets and jewelry, but most of her customers don’t see flaws and love her stuff.

She sees art as permanent and always has expectations for her ceramics.

Poet/musician who loves to praise others through her work.

She sees music as fleeting and does not have strict expectations for their outcome.

It’s harder than I thought to translate a furry design into human form wow

I forgot to mention this but a month ago or so I uploaded an OC animatic with “The Horror and the Wild” by The Amazing Devil as the song

“The Horror and the Wild” is the first song by TAD that I’ve listened to so it’s rather special to me… At the same time, because I used it for this animatic and had to listen to it so many times when editing, all I can visualize is this animatic whenever I hear the song haha

So this started as an attempt to stylize Kawasemi and Kuina’s body shapes more. I figured Kuina would have a more sleek shape (since the uniform) and Kawasemi would be more blocky. Stylizing him in black and white was fun! His face reminded me of Jintou (no surprise, he was a major inspiration for Jintou’s initial design)… The red decorations Jintou’s got on his ears are 中国结 (zhongguo jie, Chinese decorative knots). You see them in Ganyu’s and Yun Jin’s designs too. It’s kinda ironic that they look like flowers ‘cause Jintou works with fire and the last thing he wants is to burn and destroy something. I’ve been trying to change his design so he’s got more influences from Chinese culture

I like Jintou’s concept but still, seeing his face is sometimes irritating… He’s evolved far beyond the original drawing course where he was first created in but connotations with burnout, hm… Really, his whole concept was initially based off of my own frustration back then (hence, overly critical and perfectionist master who was a potter) and I guess I need to still work on letting go of that period.

Haha, it’s really fun to just scribble whatever I want without sticking to a “theme” on the canvas

The artist in me begs for help and the poet in me finally responds. Traumas born from that night of “Snowstorm Nocturne” and that day of the “Jintou Project”. This humble self before you is merely a “ceramic artist”…

Translating this was interesting! I initially translated it directly but the strangely formal vibe in the Chinese was not carried over, so I translated it again with Shakespearean English in mind.

Story time

Jintou’s first “set” design looked slightly different, but after thinking about Genshin Impact’s Liyue character designs, it felt more and more weird to make a character (not set in modern time) have a Chinese name but not dress the part (at best he looked like some DND OC). Plus, the character was originally for a school course that… really wasn’t the best in terms of character design process, storytelling and overall planning. I realized that when designing a character (that’s not just for pretty aesthetics I mean, not that there’s anything wrong with that), you gotta know their backstory and personality well.

Originally he was just a gold-loving thief and self-proclaimed engineer, but now, he’s more of a potter and I guess still an engineer too. But what’s more important is that his concept shifted from a “blood and flesh” goat to something more similar to Albedo. Actually Shadows Amidst Snowstorms (or at least what I can gather from bits and pieces of it) was a huge inspiration for his updated backstory. When I first designed him in that class, he didn’t get a mentor figure in his story until later on where I didn’t have time nor energy to change his design again. This time though— This time his master is a perfectionist potter. Jintou learned a lot from her, but she also deprived him of a lot of things.

Interesting how “haha” and “ha!” give very different vibes even though the difference is so small

Jintou is absolutely “ha!” and Yingqin is “haha”

Ha! If even that bastard crea— Nüwa abandoned me, y’think there’s anyone else who’d want me?

You think I should leave him for his vile reputation? Haha, have you no thought the effect of your words? I shall tell his tale until the end of my day.

Essentially they’re “Nobody cares for me so guess I’ll just do whatever” and “I care for you so much I’ll write songs about you”

Oh man I haven’t written them in English in a while now (I’ve written a conversation between them in Chinese recently, though. Seems they’d work well as Genshin Impact OCs since the world building fits…)
