A little Agents of SHIELD AU
1990 Sarajevo OPERATION:CRACKDOWN
“Hang on just a little longer John.” a voice said.
“Phil? What the Hell are you doing here?” Garret rasped. Was he hallucinating? His radio had been filled with excuses. No help was coming. He was going to die here, angry at being betrayed and alone with his guts spilling out into the dirt.
“Disobeying orders.” His brother in arms replied with a forced smile on his face.
Garret knew Coulson’s eyes were on the obliterated organs quivering and dying behind what remained of his left rib cage.
“Did he put you up to this?” Garret asked as he saw Melinda May tear away what remained of his PASGT and shirt so Coulson could patch him up
“Don’t worry about us Garret, Sitwell’s covering for us.” Coulson said
Garret didn’t have the strength to laugh.
1999 St. Leonard of Noblac’s Juvenile Detention Center Winthrop Massachusetts,
The boy looked up. Garrett had never seen someone look so broken.
“I’m Agent John Garrett, this is my good friend Agent Phil Coulson.” The two men sat down their body language casual. L ike they hanging out in a bar trying to get laid and not two agents visiting a juvenile detention facility.
“The quartermaster at your military school's an old buddy of mine. He told me about a pissed-off young cadet with off-the-chart eye-hand coordination who went AWOL, stole a car, drove over a thousand miles home only to try and burn the place down.” Garrett said in an oily tone.
“I’m going to make you a one time offer so listen up. My friend Phill is a good man. He’s got a good heart and thinks you deserve a second chance. I was a pyro myself when I was your age, so I kind of have a rough idea of what’s going through your head. Come with us, and we’ll show you what it mean to be a real man and no one will ever screw with you again. Or you can stay here. Your facing charges for attempted murder and arson, and your brother’s petitioned the court to have you tried as an adult.”
“ Say yes kid, I got twenty bucks riding on this.” Garrett said with an easy smile
“What my friend Garret means is that everyone had bad breaks. They make mistakes. But nobody’s nobody. And everybody deserves a second chance. Grant say yes and your life is Tabula Rasa. A blank slate. Your family will never be able to touch you again, and Garrett and I can teach you the skills you need to be a hero. A shield between humanity and the large amount of evil people in this world.”
“Before you say no or I lose twenty bucks, I’m going to be frank with you. Going with us is the hardest thing you’ve ever done, but it’ll be fun.” Garrett said with a smile.
“Why should I trust either of you?”
“Only trust people who you would take a bullet for and that you know would take a bullet for you.kid.” Garrett said
Garret pulled out a crisp twenty dollar bill and handed it to Coulson.
Coulson than handed it to the boy.
“Your going to need it. “ Coulson said.
Your going to need it. Coulson’s word echoed in his mind.
It had been two weeks since the two SHIELD agents had left him in a forest in Wyoming.
He was stealing some supplies from a cabin. He didn't want to, but he needed to survive. To prove he wasn't weak.
Grant put the twenty on the cabin’s table.
