In the middle of a horrid heat wave here in #southeast #georgia and good ol' #johnsongym has a broken AC unit. Join me, won't you, on a journey of pouring sweat and heavy wet clothing. . Vid 1: 5/5x3 squat at 85%. Normally I bump the weight up, especially with how good these felt but I was already losing my grip on the bar and seeing spots from the humidity in the gym. I stayed at the prescribed weight. Vid 2: 4/4x2. Rolled up sleeves, tighter bun and dripping sweat off my fingers and face. The heat took 15 pounds from my deadlift today so instead of 80% I could only give 75%. Sorry mom, sorry God. Vid 3: Fast forward a few exercises and I'm super-setting SSB Good Mornings and Chin ups. My shirt is tucked in to my sports bra by now and sweat is now a river flowing freely down my arms and nose. But damn 4/4x5 chin ups with no bands! Guys! I did a thing with weights! . Since it's an American holiday today, #johnsongym was closed. Thankfully, I was still able to get in to the #deadzone gym and stay on track with my gym time. Weighted dips was at the end of a pretty big shoulder and chest day but I was feeling randy enough to actually attempt it WITH WEIGHT. Granted, it was only 5 pounds and I couldn't go much past 4 reps but for me, this is huge progress. . As a #Dressage coach one of the questions that irritates me the most from my clients is, "Am I getting any better?". (First of all, seriously guys? Do you think I'm that bad at my job? 🤨 Secondly, do you not have any body awareness that you can't feel it?) My usual response to them is if you come here once a week or more and put in HONEST effort and put in the work outside of the saddle (e.g. gym time, some light theory reading, video watching) there is no way you can NOT be getting better. At some point the riding (and lifting) gainz train slows down and you have to find the little victories for your measure of progress. . This is a little victory and a measure of progress for my dips and I'm super excited! I also had @metalheadmeathead in my head during these telling me not to swing! Today was a damn fun training session. Vid 1: 3/3x8 paused SSB squats Vid 2: 2/2x10 SSB squats Vid 3: 1/8x3 banded bench Vid 4: 5/5x25 steps barbell carry (#johnsongym doesn't have a yoke) and yes, I dropped that 185lbs off my back on the 5th one instead of doing an extra set and walking it back. Deal with it. . Fresh off a long, very long weekend and super late night I hit the ol' #johnsongym in the early AM as usual, some quick farm chores and then off it was to my happy place. . I took the #gallifreygirls to #tybeeisland for some "staff development". Ergo, no horses. We don't have to talk about horses. We don't even have to talk. Just enjoy. Even with my #volumeanxiety I still managed to surprise myself with moving the barbell as easily as I did. I left #johnsongym rather pleased (and tired) this morning. . Vid 1: 1x10 @ 240lbs (5lbs heavier than last week) Vid 2: 3/3 x 8 @ 115lbs (the heaviest I have ever front squatted just earlier this week now 3x8) Vid 3: Find 3RM OHP. If I had crept up with fractional plates, I could have gone higher than 85lbs but I went to 90 (my previous and still current 1RM) so it's still 85lbs. . This was followed by narrow stance raised heels back squats 3 x 12, single leg hamstring curls 3x15 and single leg barbell RDL's 3 x 10. My legs are delightfully cooked!
