Plot ideas and possible verses.
Modern AU - Restaurant:
Merlin works in the famous Camelot restaurant, one of the best and finest in England. He’s the head chef (strangely, he has magic, and it makes his cooking taste divine) and nobody has ever managed to make their food taste as good. His manager is Arthur Pendragon, and his bossy flat-mate, and the waitress that works alongside him is Guinevere Thomas. Unfortunately, rivalling restaurant Saxons, owned by Arthur’s (presumably deranged) half-sister Morgana le Fay, have sent spies in to try to learn Merlin’s secret recipe [could be Morgana herself, or anybody else that works for her]. They lie and deceive their way into Merlin’s life and he falls for them. Will they use the information to their advantage? Or find themself in love with Merlin?

Modern - Rekindling love:
Merlin finds Morgana again after thousands of years. She remembers who he is, and blocks him out from her life, angry with what he’s done to betray her in the past. He tries for months to try to contact and impress her, even when she’s not interested. Eventually, she lets him in and they talk over what happened between them. After talking over their past, their mistakes and their lost hope, they decide on a clean slate. They become friends and, after a while, their feelings rekindle. They move in together and become a couple but they constantly fight and argue about silly little things and the past. With discovering all of their old friends, even though they don’t remember who they are, the couple have a large strain on their relationship. However, they cannot deny their love for each other, and always find their way back to each other even after the worst of arguments.

Canon AU - Kingdoms:
Merlin is King of a Kingdom called Ayrin. It is one of the only Kingdoms that widely accept magical people and creatures. Though, they spent twenty years at war with Camelot when Uther started the Great Purge. Merlin fought in the war by preparing the dragons, Aithusa and Kilgharrah, with his best friend and most loual companion Mordred. When Merlin’s father, Balinor, died, he was passed the crown at the tender age of eighteen. Desperate to stop the war, and with the knowledge that Camelot had a new King called Arthur, he offered to make a Peace treaty with the other Kingdom. As a result, Arthur sent his sister Morgana, a unknown Seer with magical abilities, over to Ayrin to marry Merlin and become the Kingdom’s Queen. Enraged, she refuses and does everything to defy her husband, but soon enough she realises her gifts and becomes frightened. Her husband, Merlin, is the only one that can comfort her. She finds that he is not as bad as she had imagined and becomes very, very close to him, until she finds herself falling in love with him. Arthur regularly visits and they both visit Camelot too. With Gwen as the new Queen of Camelot, they all become close and the best of friends, despite their different views on magic. Arthur soon changes the law, thanks to his friends, and Camelot becomes a Kingdom ready to accept magical people.
