Why do you think Saguru was initially interested in KID?

What was his first impression of Kaito?

How does them being the same person effect things for him?

Why does he see KID as different from other criminals and does he treat him differently due to this?

Does he have any strategies to befriend his sometimes classmate?

Don't worry! I love to ramble, especially when it comes to my beloved Ekoda kids. WELL...

I like to think that the reason Saguru was interested in KID, is because he was always a fan.

The idea that little Saguru was actually in on a heist of the first KID, and he was impressed with the magic… And there was just no magician like KID! He wanted to see him again! He seemed like such an amazing person in his eyes, even if he was a thief!

So when he's already an internationally famous detective, and hears that KID is back, he's so excited to face the one person who has ever surprised him so much.

But he notices him as different. Changed. He doesn't give the same impression as before.

So, he investigates this careless KID and discovers his identity.

At first he's upset because "he's just a copycat."

I like the idea that the reason he was so aggressive towards him the first time is because of that, "it tarnished the image of his childhood idol", however, he is surprised by Kaito, and somehow this makes him feel like the first time he saw KID again.

So, he comes to the conclusion that he is not a copycat, he is an heir.

His first impression of Kaito was definitely "oh god, what a jerk, how does he treat a lady like that, I'll show him how it's done!".

He later met Aoko and Kaito, and I think he now sees them as "fun guys pretending to not get along". I think he likes the pair a lot.

I got the headcanon that Hakuba is actually VERY BI because of that pair of morons. I think the fact that he knows KId personally (as Kaito), affects him a lot, because if you remember in Hakuba's introduction he only saw him as a criminal and nothing more, but as the chapters progress we can see how Saguru softens a lot with Kaito, I mean Hakuba actively helps him by giving him information (Golden Eye), Shows concern for him (Nightmare and Sun Halo).

I think he's stopped seeing him as a simple criminal, but he's very curious, why does a person like that who hasn't really done any harm to others feel the need to steal? He really wants to solve the story before convicting him.

Saguru doesn't spend much time in Japan, but he has seen that KID will help people in need (Nightmare). Also, as I said before, he knows Kaito personally, I think that even though he knows he's hiding secrets, how he relates to Aoko and Inspector Nakamori, he believes that he wouldn't lie to them if it wasn't for a good reason.

He has heard a lot about Kaito from Aoko. Saguru is actually friends with her, they talk via text! I don't doubt that Aoko would tell him everything she could about Kaito and his childhood adventures, so Saguru might have a bigger picture than any of the other detectives.

He lives with him every day. He knows his "sister" (aoko) and "father" (the inspector), they tell him that he's a good boy.

Therefore, he can't just judge him as "another criminal", because he's not.

Even his actions don't make sense.

He gives back the jewels he steals, that doesn't make any sense.

I think it's because he's missing so many facts (and because he's too involved with Kaito at this point) that he just can't help but treat him differently.

How would he hate the guy he shares lunch with, and who lent him a pencil once for an exam? Why is that guy stealing? Why does he give it back? If what he wants is not money, but attention, why does he want it? So many questions, and no answers. I like to think that Saguru is able to see past KID's act because he knows Kaito himself.

OH GOD. I LOVE THIS QUESTION IN PARTICULAR.

One of the headcanons I have is that Saguru actually thinks they are best friends. This is because of how Aoko gets along with Kaito, and how Kaito also behaves like that with Hakuba, kind of Tsundere, so he assumes that Kaito likes him.

Also, I like to think that Kaito would be very angry if something bad happened to Hakuba, he has been seen upset by Aoko and Akako, I want to see him upset because they dared to do something to Hakuba.

Personally, I love seeing them as platonic, but SaguKai is actually a ship that I really like.

There was probably something romantic about sharing pain with your soulmate. At least, Kaito hoped that was the case. Because his soulmate sure got hurt a lot. And it started to be a bit much when he's also getting hurt himself. He did develop one hell of a pain tolerance though, so maybe that was a good thing, especially after he became KID. That said, Kaito really wish his soulmate would stop getting hurt in such suspiciously painful ways. Sure, that was kind of hypocritical of Kaito to wish for, but he was KID, and his soulmate... They're probably living a much more normal life... right? (it's about time i do a painsharing soulmate au for hakukai)

something about the way that if kid has to face multiple troubling opponents at once, he will always attempt to take hakuba off the board first, whether by delaying him, rerouting him, or otherwise removing him from being at the scene. something something about how hakuba’s the only opponent that kid actually finds “difficult” to deal with. how kaitou kid’s the “one thing in existence” that hakuba says can disrupt his thoughts.
