Ngl it frustrates me that when im looking into a shirt i want to buy that reads "ketamine saves lives" the description only mentions mental health advocacy and not oh i don't know, the fact that its the only reliable treatment for CRPS? Worse chronic pain disease known to man? The suicide disease? The disease rated to be more painful than unmedicated amputation of a finger? The disease with an orange awareness ribbon to represent fire because our pain feels like being burned alive??

Oh but yeah sure, depression is the only thing we care about, sure, sure.

Look i am beyond fucking ecstatic that it helps depression too, it treats MY depression, put it into remission, its an amazing achievement. But its not just crps thats overlooked here, its not just the depression and crps drug, it is A BREAKTHROUGH DISCOVERY. It helps pain of all kinds, helps with neuroplasticity, it is one of the ONLY MEDICATIONS THAT LITERALLY HEALS AND REPAIRS THE BRAIN AT MICROSCOPIC LEVELS. IT FUCKING REWIRES THE BRAINS FUCKING PATHWAYS. IT. HELPS. EVERY. SYMPTOM. ASSOCIATED. WITH. THE. BRAIN. AND. NERVOUS. SYSTEM.

Advocacy Group Seeks to Expand Insurance Coverage of Ketamine   — Pain News Network

A coalition of patients and healthcare providers is launching an effort to expand insurance coverage for ketamine, a non-opioid anesthetic increasingly used to treat chronic pain, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Ketamine is typically administered by infusion under strict medical supervision, a process that that can take up to an hour and cost thousands of dollars. The first goal of the Ketamine Taskforce is to get ketamine infusions fully covered by Medicare.

“Medicare doesn’t officially pay for ketamine infusions. What they will pay for is a generic infusion code similar to if someone was getting an antibiotic infused. The level of reimbursement is very low,” says Kimberley Juroviesky, a retired nurse practitioner and task force co-chair who receives ketamine infusions for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).

“Since these reimbursement rates are so low, the majority of small ketamine clinics don’t accept insurance. This leaves the majority of pain patients without the pain relief they could otherwise be benefiting from.”

Ketamine is approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a surgical anesthetic, but a growing number of ketamine clinics provide off-label infusions for depression, PTSD and difficult chronic pain conditions such as CRPS. The infusions put patients into a hypnotic, dream-like state — leaving them with less physical and emotional pain once the ketamine wears off. Many insurers consider this off-label use experimental.

“If we could get Medicare to officially put ketamine on their schedule as a treatment for chronic pain, this would hopefully raise reimbursement rates to a level where all providers could afford it. Also, this would force private insurers to pay for ketamine infusions as well and no longer refuse to pay saying it’s experimental,” Juroviesky said in an email. (Read more at link)

I had my very 1st ketamine infusion this past Thursday. I was understandably nervous. I almost never wear necklaces anymore and I'm pretty sure it's because they started to trigger my migraines so I've subconsciously avoided wearing them. But! On Thursday I wore 4 for luck XD I so badly needed this treatment to work because I've been running out of options. I was also afraid of having an allergic reaction or any adverse reactions. Luckily everything went relatively smoothly lol It was like nothing else I've experienced before. The closest thing I can think of is when I accidentally tripped off the concentrate. But even that doesn't really come close. I would consider it a psychedelic experience because at one point I didn't feel connected to my body anymore. Like I was observing the conversation I was having instead of actually being apart of it. Even though I remember not being able to shut the fuck up! XD And I normally struggle with not knowing exactly what is and isn't appropriate to talk about, ketamine made that impossible! XD At one point I felt myself fading in a fucking scary way and my mother quickly derailed that by asking me about my socks XD I instantly looked down and started talking about my socks which snapped me out of it. It was an interesting experience for sure lol

I'M IN. I'M APPROVED FOR KETAMINE INFUSIONS. This feels really surreal. It hasn't sunk in yet I literally just found out, holy fuck. Maybe I can survive winter now, and hope is not a thing that I am used to feeling. Someone pinch me - I feel like I'm waiting on the other shoe to drop. Like okay this is too good, what bad thing is gonna happen to balance this out, haha. I'm excited, but also like side-eyeing the universe lmao. Oh my god. I can't believe this.

I seriously hate the medicine that is the closest thing to a cure for crps and depression is mostly associated with fucking Elon Musk.

Please educate yourselves on how ketamine therapy and infusions fucking save lives and is one of the biggest breakthrough medications discovered recently. Like its truly the stuff of miracles for some people, do not let that little bitch taint it.
