Inside the Abandoned Green Lantern Series That Almost Was
Bleeding Cool has a solid rundown of the Green Lantern series that was deep in development before the current version Lanterns from DC Studios scheduled for 2026 took its place.
Announced in 2019, the planned eight-episode series would have stretched across decades and galaxies. It was set to open in 1941 with the first Green Lantern, Alan Scott—portrayed by Jeremy Irvine as a closeted FBI agent—and then shift to 1984 to follow Guy Gardner, played by Finn Wittrock, alongside half-alien Bree Jarta. The show would have introduced a mix of new and familiar faces, with Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Sinestro, and Kilowog all slated to appear.
Behind the scenes, the project had an impressive roster. Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and writer/showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith were set to executive produce with Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Madden, and David Katzenberg, while Elizabeth Hunter and Sara Saedi signed on as co-executive producers.
It’s a fascinating look at what might have been for the Corps before the current live-action shift.

Genuinely charmed by how Hal thinks about his fellow lanterns and describes how they use their rings. Though, Kyle, sweetie, now may not be the time to worry about your linework. <3
