The Last Trial Retrospective
Song: Mass
#1 We have already discussed the relationship between this song and "Aria of the King Priest." Changes made to either song affected the other, so it took a while to finish both.
#2 Adapting his "Ultimatum":
Additionally, "Mass" was meant to share lines with "Everything in the Name of Faith." But that didn't exactly work out. Whereas we could preserve the wording "Who's not with us is against us!" in the adaptation "Faith is All or Nothing," that was because we could just SAY it. In "Mass," however, it was not compatible with the syllables and stresses; it couldn't be sung. How then could we reword it?
Rough Draft:
"Stand with me or my enemy/
Your decision--which will it be?"
The second line rocked here, the stresses on "eneMY" above it-- not so much.
Final draft:
"Take a side while there's still a chance/
Faith or folly where do you stand?"
I like the false delimma fallacy here and the leading question. It is everything you would expect from a leader demanding blind followers. It was also a good way of working in "I give you this final chance" from "Faith is All or Nothing" without actually repeating it.
#2 Understanding what the Kingpriest meant by these lines was a challenge:
(Raw translation): "Mercy can vary/
Compassion is beautiful and all,/
But faith demands cruelty/
and there is no choice in that!"
In this rough draft we approached the meaning in a way that could be sung:
"Though compassion works well in theory
There are other methods of mercy"
The meaning still felt off though. It was to became much clearer after hearing "Temptation by Compassion" for the first time:
"I thought my compassion was what made me strong/
So like yourself, so very wrong."
"The shepherd knows pity is just for the weak!"
Compassion is naive and the Kingpriest's brand of mercy is (as Crysania points out) the golden cage: The illusion of pefection at the cost of freedom for all.
The final draft proved to be much more meaningful:
"Though compassion is pleasantly rosy/
There are stronger methods of mercy/
Faith requires a level of cruelty--/
That's not up to me!"
The Last Trial Retrospective:
Aria of the Kingpriest
#1 First off, I'd like to highlight this rewrite:
"You know we hold Mass in your name, Lord/In earnest, with purest of faith!"
Hehe gotta love that internal rhyme!

Original:
"Зарею над миром прольется огонь/ твоего алтаря!"
The Kingpriest repeats this line in the song "Mass," though to a bit of a different tune.
The challenge was that here he sings the second "a" of "алтаря" across two notes.
Our final draft reads:
(Aria of the Kingpriest):
"Like morning your fire will light the world/
in a blaze of holy flame"
(and in "Mass")
"The world will soon be set ablaze/
with your holy flame"
It took a lot of revision before we finally got there. Changes made to one song affected the other.
Previous rough drafts included:
(Aria)
"Like morning your fire will light the world/
when your altar o'erflows"
(and in Mass)
"The flame of your altar will o'erflow/
and spread like the dawn."

Though we couldn't fit in the words "kingdom of darkness" it was an obvious choice to rhyme "knees" with "enemies":
"My fair Istar, you must rise from your knees
#3 We meticulously put pauses between the words to mirror how it was sung in Russian:
"and at last
put an end
to your enemies"

"Our fair Istar" was accepted in the final draft rewrite instead of "Our fairest Istar" on the condition that "Our" was sung by the chorus consistently with two syllables throughout the song.

"God is here!/
Our Kingpriest is here!"
This is the call and response of our final draft rewrite.
We considered changing it to something more "Patriotic" like "Trust in God/In our Kingpriest we trust" to mirror the nationalistic slogan of "с нами Бог." Well, in the end we sacrificed that cultural parallel for the better sound of what we already had. The perfectly mirrored structure was too irresistable.

Day 325 Use Your Double Portion Of Speaking Power
1 Peter 2:9
9But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people...
God calls us “a royal priesthood”. This means that we are kings as well as priests under the king-priesthood of Jesus Christ. This has never happened before in the history of God’s people. In the Old Testament, kings and priests were two distinct groups of people. You were either a king or priest, but not both at the same time.
Today, because we are in Christ, we are king-priests — a royal priesthood. This means that we have a double portion of speaking power because as kings, “Where the word of a king is, there is power” (Ecclesiastes 8:4), and as priests, “by their word every controversy and every assault shall be settled”. (Deuteronomy 21:5)
So if you are a Christian businessman, you will have an edge over worldly businessmen. What you say about your business deals will come to pass. And if you are falsely accused, know that by your very word, every controversy and every assault will be settled!
And as a king-priest parent, when you bless your children, your words have the power to set in motion supernatural events that will bring them into God’s abundance and superabounding grace. And there will be such a courage and resilience about them that it will empower them to win the fights of life!
When the devil comes to you and says that you will die young because your father and grandfather died young, or that you will never be successful because you are not well-educated, you must remember that the devil is neither a king nor a priest. There is no power in his words. But there is power in yours because you are a king-priest in Christ!
So instead of agreeing with him, believe and declare, “I will not die young. With long life He will satisfy me and show me His salvation!” Say, “The Lord will make my way prosperous and give me good success!” Use your double portion of speaking power and see these blessings come to pass!
Thought For The Day
You have a double portion of speaking power because you are a king as well as a priest in Christ Jesus.
