the way you draw korugar is so beautiful, it’s LITERALLY other-worldly, it takes my breath away!

Underappreciated Superheroine of the Day Issue #27 - Green Lantern Ladies - Katma Tui.
As we continue to chronicle unappreciated superheroines, Katma Tui has to be at the top of the list. The lovely Katma led the revolution against the tyrant Thaal Sinestro when he took control of her homeworld Korugar. However, her people viewed her as a traitor and called her "the lost one" after she accepted Tomar-Re's invitation to join the Green Lantern Corps and replace Sinestro.
Katma is a highly skilled leader, a ferocious warrior and a sensitive diplomat. She has been the guardian of Sector 1417. Katma's love interests have included Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner and John Stewart whom she married.
the urge to make korugarians elf cat clown (and just a little bit bug) things
- somewhat expressive Lynx-like ears that flick in whatever direction they’re listening and pin back when they’re upset,
- a simple flick of an ear is a common symbol of acknowledgment, similar to a nod or an “mhm”,
- hair all over their bodies (namely, long “tabby stripes” on their back, “M” stripes on some foreheads, whiskers, head hair, a long stripe of hair on their tails) that fluffs up when they feel threatened
- interesting and colorful markings on their faces !! and bodies!! i was thinking they are painted on & resemble the triangles and swirly lines some clowns do, and that they could be family markings or simply for expression
- earrings (i’m stealing this from someone but i forgot who, i think dcblueniverse) that represent relationship ties and history; position, length, decorations, attachments, and size all indicate different things;
- two primary types of romantic relationships; your permanent mate that you raise children and have a home with & a second partner that you spar with physically or (as culture evolved) intellectually; kits can happen here too it’s just less common (tying into the whole “the ultimate pleasure to a korugarian is being near death” thing i think they can microdose on that just a little bit)
- korugarians love their grooming rituals! they love spas and steams and community baths (i imagine they have something similar to balneums) and just casually grooming each other as a family/partner thing. grooming is a very personal intimate thing but it’s also a Whole Entire Industry on korugar
- tails that can sometimes grab things but are really more effective as rutters when running or whips to ward off threats,
- crepuscular as a whole, reflected in their open markets; many set up shop and run errands at dawn and come back later in the day when it’s cooler to sell
- korugarian buildings built with many colorful blocks and wooden decorations (im picturing mosque-like architecture), many travelling tents that sell different things and are equally decorated well,
- korugarians that naturally run hot as fuck and just have random water holes everywhere to keep them cool lol
- korugarians that wear really long, intricately embroidered (thank you pastelplastic and lodestar) fabrics that hang low; some gendered clothing (i picture them as having four genders indicated by forehead type instead of two) but mostly veils and head- centric jewelry
- chittering that sounds like a mix between a cheetah and a cicada. i don’t think they really roar, but i think a series of low or high clicks would be cool. they’d use it for communicating simple things, & their language would be an evolution of this
hello green lantern nation. does anyone know if we have katma tui in 4 days
I never get enough of Soranik Natu using her green lantern ring to practice her medical abilities, especially when she's doing it for free on the slums and poor neighborhoods of Korugar, healing people who otherwise would have no way to access medical treatment. That's one of the coolest ways to use the green lantern energy to help others
