thank you for putting traditional clothing in your weak points, it was really fun to draw <3
ROUND 1 — Match 217 of 286
Nazali Satrinava (The Arcana)
Identity: Nonbinary, explicit Notes: Uses they/them pronouns. Propaganda: 1. "Nazali is one of my favourite Satrinava siblings because they feel the most grounded. They’re practical, focused, and clearly used to dealing with serious situations without making it about them. I like that their vibe is “I’m here to check on my family and fix what I can,” not “I’m here to be impressive.” Also, they come off as genuinely caring without being overly soft - the kind of person who helps first, asks questions later, and doesn’t need praise for it." 2. "they have that really specific kind of presence where they feel calm and composed on the surface, but there’s so much intensity underneath it. they’re intelligent, capable, a little intimidating, and very clearly someone who has seen far too much to be easily shaken. that already makes them stand out. and for an lpgt character tournament, they’re especially fun because they bring that non-binary rep while also just being genuinely compelling in their own right. they don’t feel tokeny or one-note, they feel like a full character with authority, mystery, and real emotional weight behind them. there’s something very easy to latch onto there."
vs. Kyza (Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn)
Identity: Nonbinary and Queer, explicit Notes: Implied in Radiant Dawn, and explicitly nonbinary in Heroes, where they use they/them pronouns. Has feelings for Ranulf (a man). Propaganda: "They're not super useful in Radiant Dawn but I love them anyway <3"
Who should advance?
Nazali Satrinava
Kyza
Given that Heroes’ localization updated Kyza from Radiant Dawn as a non-binary character, I often think about how they are treated in Japanese Heroes and if it differs at all from their portrayal in the Japanese Radiant Dawn. I haven’t been able to find any concrete answers online, so I would greatly appreciate it if you could look into the matter.
In my conclusion and TLDR, Kyza is definitively portrayed the same in JP Heroes as they were in JP Radiant Dawn.
I first checked Kyza’s JP “Meet some of the Heroes” entry on the official FE Heroes website (link here), and sure enough they are referred to by name repeatedly, and no pronouns are used. This is very common in Japanese. The most notable thing here is that they are described as having the heart of a maiden (乙女心, otomegokoro), but this word doesn’t describe a female character necessarily - it describes a pure heart/ love, like that of a teenage girl or young woman. Leon and his feelings for Valbar are also described in the same way in Echoes.
Kyza 959
Based on a dream I had this year of a modern laguz AU, where for some reason I was lion laguz and all beast laguz were dressed fancy.
