1950s Scientists, Microscopes, Laboratory
SCP Foundation institutional culture is all research and many administrative staff members wearing lab coats in contexts as far removed from a laboratory as conceptually possible.
It's also site security agents and MTF members wearing their combat boots and batons even when they're off duty. And many ConSpec techies carrying their tool belt even without anything to fix. It's D-Class never being allowed to take off the jumpsuits. It's humanoid anomalies having to wear labels and inmate uniforms.
Overall, its being encouraged to identify yourself by your role and use to the Foundation as much as possible, to take that into your identity and display it as a marker of self or a badge of pride. You're a Foundation scientist. Of course you wear the lab coat. It's not just a garment, its a mantle.
And it nicely complements the tracking implants they put somewhere near your shoulders and the contractual tether on your soul.

BRITTANY: What do you get when you put Simon and me together?
SIMON: Simon and I.
BRITTANY: …and you wrecked my joke with your grammar policing.
SIMON: My apologies, continue.
BRITTANY: Perfect Chemistry!
Coming up, in chapter 13 (which Simon’s only 4 paragraphs into writing. Give him and Brittany some time) Simon and Brittany team up as lab partners to unravel the mystery of why the ADHD meds are TOO effective on Alvin and wiping out parts of his personality he enjoyed.
Watching Brittany design her labcoat was fun. Also loving that Simon just threw his labcoat on over his basketball jersey.
I love and hate that dang glitter tool. I also love and hate that lineart is so much easier on ADHD meds, but I legit cannot think of a color scheme until they’re beginning to wear off. My brain on meds doesn’t do anything creative. Lineart is basically just tracing something already drawn so it’s ths most creative I can get.
Yes, I do keep taking the ADHD meds (intermittently) so I have more experience with them and thus Alvin/Albert-Vincent and I both are better able to write the meds fic OFF meds.
read a headcanon somewhere about all the hermits with lab coats (zed, doc, cub, theres probably more) where their coats r interchangeable like two will be hanging out together and somehow they'll end up with each others lab coats to the point where nobody knows whos is whos and tbh i just think thats so cute
