The thing that convinced me most that WWX was (more or less) welcomes in GusuLan sect was the fact he was accepted as LWJ’s husband and now a member of the family. The Lan’s, especially LQR, could have easily made a fuss about it. For now, LWJ is second in line for the sect. It would have been so easy to claim getting eloped didn’t count and that it was expected and proper decorum for him to have a wedding and drag out planning a proper wedding in hopes to discourage WWX from staying.
Instead, they’re like “of course you eloped while away. Of course you’re married now. Why fight it at this point. We’re just happy you actually returned willingly with your now husband, here’s the date for the next family banquet but WWX still has to eat the plain food”
Yeah, the Lans are basically just like "Well, if Wangji wants it then he'll get it". They're not overjoyed at having the Yiling Patriarch hanging around at first, sure, but... yeah, they accept WWX into the sect without a fuss to make LWJ happy. Also, related note, I am convinced that LWJ had been out for ages before WWX came back, just because the Lans are totally unsurprised at him falling for a man (just surprised that he's fallen for That Man).
The rule is don't kill in the Cloud Recesses.
Outside the Cloud Recesses it isn’t an issue. Outside, the Lan partake in night-hunts with the same enthusiasm as their peers. Outside, they are cultivators.
At the Cloud Recesses, they do not kill, or run, or shout, or wander in the dark after curfew.
At the Cloud Recesses, they weave robes with sigils of protection for their children, and tie blessed ribbons around their foreheads. Potent safeguards they set down only before their most trusted, their most beloved.
It makes you wonder why.
It makes you wonder what hunts the Lans at Cloud Recesses.
Lowkey wondering what kind of MDZS/Wheel of Time AU fic there’s going to be once all the Lan Wangji stans realize that the untalkative, secretly passionate Lan Mandragoran attaches great cultural meaning to the cord around his forehead, which was presented to him by a senior in his martial sect when he reached adulthood, and which he doesn’t take off (except, perhaps, to sleep, in the presence of his wife)
