Inspired by this post, but with the insulins I grew up on and flowers that I associate with having a chronic illness (more discussion under the cut)

So the flowers are blue star (strength, resilience, patience) and cactus flower (endurance.) In all honesty I wouldn't be alive right now without unwavering patience and perseverance. (That's why I personally put T1D reader as having either a cyan or purple SOUL, or both.)

I was diagnosed back in August of 1999, before I was even two years old. Some of my earliest childhood memories is not being allowed to have treats brought in for the class (eventually changed) and learning how to do my own shots. Im on Tresiba and Novolog now because I'm having issues getting insurance to cover pump supplies, but Humalog and Lantus was what I took until I got a pump in 2007-2008 at nine years old. I remember so many changes and innovations in my life- insulin pumps, CGMs, heck even insulin pens were a huge change. Different insulins, better blood glucose meters, not to sound like a diabetic boomer but new diabetics have so many options now than when I was tiny. (Now if only we can get better access to at least Medicaid for everyone... Or taxpayer funded healthcare for everyone ideally)

I think it's more because they've been so busy, but a much more reasonable situation here today (and most of yesterday): they've just left my insulin out where I can use it as required, with some needles.

They have been keeping it all locked in this drawer with some other meds that are specifically mine. (The liquid versions of several things now.) Then handing it to me with a new needle already on and the dose already dialed in.

Having free access means not having to hit the call button and then often wait a while before I can eat, since I am on the insulin schedule which doesn't follow hospital SOP now. With as busy as things have been staying around here, that's taken almost an hour before for nursing staff to make sure they had needles and just generally get it together so that I could use the Novorapid and eat.

It's not full self-management with their just leaving it out for now, and I have no idea how long that might last. But, it's an improvement for the however long it does last.

So that defect where the ring pops off your reservoir holder and thus you can't really hold the reservoir in the pump that Medtronic warned us all about awhile back?

Yeah, it finally happened.

But I don't have any Lantus available, and the pump was "overnighted" but you know, there's a thing happening right now that really slows deliveries down.

Anyway, the point is that I used duct tape to keep my reservoir in my pump, and so far, so good.

However, I don't recommend this for others. This was my own stupid decision and not at all best practice. ♥️
