Raw! Continuing to tell my story... One more of my daily/nightly health struggles...my skin is a constant battle. It’s hard to get any seal, with all the scarring, pits, and divots from being cut open sooo many times.... Retracted stoma. Bruised skin. Broken down skin, due to so many bags popping, lifting, leaking multiple times daily...My stoma...it is a portion of my small intestine (large intestine was surgically removed as well 😪)that has been brought through the surface of my abdomen (belly) and then folded back. The location depends on your medical condition. (my right side). A stoma provides an alternative path for my liquid stool (my ileostomy, it runs 24 hours a day) to leave my body. Since I have no motility in my bottom area, I cannot push out the poop that builds up daily, so it has to be removed manually daily(painful is an understatement), it can take hours(humiliating beyond words), problem being I cannot get it out daily, so it continues to build up daily turning into very hard, like rocks, (calcified poop)making it even harder to remove...most/ideal stomas are about an inch round, plump, sticking out so your appliance (bag) can be secure...my very first stoma was like that, back when I was told having an ileostomy was temporary...not to be! This is the stoma I received from a different surgery... In my blog post coming soon, more pictures. Also, the catheter for my lavages go in that tiny opening in my stoma 👀 to unblock blockages in my small intestine daily because of constricting in my intestines...intestines are always moving.
