#liberal arts problems

Well, I just got out of a meeting wherein I was informed that the chemistry faculty thought my seminar presentation, a hefty portion of my final grade, was only worth a C grade because I had the audacity to combine environmental topics with chemical knowledge. And what made it worse was that they all agreed that the presentation itself, my speaking style, the structure, was GREAT. 

I am so done with this school. You’re either a liberal arts school that encourages collaboration and integration or you’re not. You can’t have it one way and then the other.

38 days left... I can do this

Claire: What?

Me: It’s freezing, i can’t get my skype working!

Claire: What...i don’t understand

Me: It’s frozen

Claire: ...do you need a sweater for your computer? 

Me:...omg...i hate you

Some engineering major probably: Why do you write like you’re running out of time? Write day and night like you’re running out of time? Ev’ry day you fight, like you’re running out of time

Me, an English major: Because the engineering major got sick after five pages, the communication major wrote 29. I have to write the other 51!

About 15% of Brother Dear’s comments on my LinkedIn profile are complaints about the job titles I’m using, and I have to explain to him, it’s not that I am coming up with crappy titles for myself, it’s that Company X literally just calls my position “intern” and there’s nothing I can do about it. (He especially hates “Intern—Senior Mentor,” and I have to explain that I am an intern with the organization, and my specific intern position is as a mentor to high school seniors, hence somebody coming up with this ridiculously confusing title that means nothing to outsiders and is no way my fault.)

A new direction.

So now that i am officially enrolled in a fiction writing class for the quarter, I am leaving poetry behind for a while in order to focus on my prose. That being said, I will still be sharing my old poems on here, but I will also be sharing the new things that I write, including a short story which I will hopefully begin working on soon. Keep and eye out for some experimental prose, imitations, and stories on your dash, because most likely, they will be mine. Happy writing, happy livin'! -Sam.

Me at college: Useless gen ed, useless gen ed, biology (exactly the same as high school bio), math (same as college algebra in high school), music (love!), French, and Spanish.

Me to my advisor: Why can’t I take more languages??? Why?!

I can't tell you how frustrating it is to take 18-21 credit semesters all through college to make up for lack of credits transferring from community college only to not graduate on time because even though all the credits were made up, there is still one more class I need for my major that got filled before I could get into it.
