Farewell, Corvo.
I just watched (read: last night) Wolfwalkers and ohhhhhhh god it was insanely good!. I love the art style and it makes my brain just explode, love everything about the movie.
Anyways, i have an Idea for a fanfic that i’m currently writing and want to share with y’all about the lord protector (or oliver cromwell).
Just a note: remember how if a wolf bites a human they become a wolfwalker?
Importantly here to remember, is that it doesn’t need to be especially an deep bite judging by how Robyn looked to only have a scratch, and she very much became a wolfwalker.
You know the scene where he’s hanging off the cliff after Goodfellowe bit into him?
We never see how deep that bite went before he unfastens his belt and allows himself to fall into the ravine. I think they did this as a smooth and easy trick for him to fall into the ravine without having to add any blood that risked making this movie unsafe for kids.
(The lord protector is wearing this kind armour)
Notice how the animators consciously decided to show the distinctly golden coloured magic which emanates from Wolfwalkers?
Voilà, i’m pretty sure the lord protector was but, realized it and decided that it wasn’t worth living anymore due to being infected by what he saw as demons
Put in mind that a wolf’s teeth especially from a larger wolf like goodfellowe are far larger than a normal wolf, add in how the plate armour lord protector was wearing usually were light and thin to keep oneself mobile.
My Idea for the fanfic is that somehow, somewhere, he survived but is in critical condition. Down in the ravine we see him limp around and yell at god about how he failed him the first night he’s there, before leaving in other clothes to not attract attention.
But he feels something that happens at night, the feeling that he’s a wolfwalker, which he’s also disgusted by. That’s all for now until i release it soon.
Corvo Attano (Dishonored 2 2016)
for anyone who, like me, thought that Bill had bit the Lord Protector in the final battle (I was disappointed to know that he hadn't)
If I had a coin of 10 for every time I've gotten framed for murder, I'd have two coins of 10, which isnt a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?
Talking about Walt Disney's severed head the other day reminded me of another famous severed head with an actual connection to the history of Britain, this one being the head of Oliver Cromwell. After his death in 1658, 'Lord Protector Cromwell' was buried at Westminster Abbey, only to be dug up and hanged anyway when the monarchy was re-established. His head was originally displayed on a pike but was later buried in a secret location to prevent it from being stolen by Republican idealists hoping to resurrect the Lord Protector and overthrow the monarch (currently Charles III). While overthrowing the British monarchy may seem like a good idea in general, the resurrection of Cromwell would only lead to his own tyrannical rule, as the Lich would undoubtedly attempt to continue his conquests and expand the Puritanical version of Commonwealth he used to lead. Ask the Irish how well that went last time.
You might think that it would be better to simply destroy Cromwell's head entirely. You may be right, but when the monarchy was re-established Charles II made the corpse an integral part of his coronation ceremony. Every monarch since has also resurrected Cromwell and re-slain him, in his weak post-resurrection state, to legitimise their rule. A unproven monarch taking the throne (or, indeed, no monarch at all) would require all the nation's protective seals to be reconfigured, and that could risk untold chaos. Big Ben might even escape! Better to leave it for now, then come back to the idea when the wards have been reconfigured for a Republican government not based on the old Royal Family.
(Please note that when I say 'Republicans' here I am talking about British Republicans; i.e. those who wish to abolish the monarchy. I am not talking about the American Republicans who, ironically, are devout followers of their cult's god-king, the entity described in the prophecies of Virginia Dare as Caesar aurantiacus. The two are very different.)
