You slump against the door, closing it behind you with a soft click. The week has taken its toll on you, and right now, all you want to do is spend the entire weekend (and then some) enveloped in your boyfriend’s warm embrace. There’s only one small problem with your plan: Seokmin isn’t supposed to be home for another few hours. 

Sighing, you peel yourself off the door. Might as well get a few chores out of the way before Seokmin comes home, you think, heading into your room to slip into something more comfortable. After all, the more chores you get done, the more time you’ll get to spend with Seokmin this weekend. 

As you make your way back to the living room, you notice the bright light emanating from the kitchen. That’s strange. You’re pretty sure those lights weren’t on when you came home, and you definitely turned them off before leaving for work today. 

You tiptoe slowly towards the kitchen, careful not to make any noise as you move through the hallway. When you turn the corner, you find yourself face to face with your boyfriend, who’s preparing ingredients on the kitchen counter.

Both of you jump back in surprise, clearly not expecting the other’s presence so soon. 

“What are you doing here?” you exclaim, making your way behind the counter as you take in the scene in front of you.

Seokmin scratches the back of his neck sheepishly, after setting the knife down to turn and face you. “I know you’ve been having a hard time this week, so I wanted to surprise you…” his voice trails off, and you can’t help but notice the beginnings of a blush dusting his cheeks. “I was making dinner.”

“Why didn’t you say anything when I came home?”

“I thought you would be taking a nap! I wanted you to rest first.” 

“But what about work?” you sputter out.

“I took today off. They said it would be fine. Plus, I haven’t used any of my vacation days yet.” 

You wrap your arms around his waist, sinking into the warmth of his chest, overwhelmed with gratitude. You can feel his heartbeat against your skin, beating in time with yours as you capture his lips in a sweet kiss. “I love you. You know that, right?” 

Seokmin smiles against your lips, cradling your face in his hands. He pulls away to press a kiss to your forehead, his mouth forming words on your skin. “I love you too. Now please take a break, I’ll let you know when the food is ready.” 

“Is there anything you need help with?” you protest, untangling yourself from your embrace. 

He shakes his head, still smiling. “Don’t worry about it. I did the dishes already, and you don’t have to do any other chores this weekend. Besides”—he nudges you gently—“I’m almost done anyways. You can pick out a movie for later!” 

As you walk away from the kitchen, Seokmin calls out behind you. “Speaking of which, we need to get that dishwasher fixed!” 

“You say that like you’re not going to use it as a drying rack even after we get it fixed.”

You wake alone in your bed, room dark and warm. You can hear faint clattering down the hall, which you have to assume is from your boyfriend trying to throw together breakfast. It’s not that you think Jaehyun is incapable, he’s just kind of clumsy, and has a tendency to treat inanimate objects roughly, which usually leads to burned food and the occasional broken dish.

But you don’t smell burning, and the air is clear of the telltale panicked sweeping and clinking, so you sit up slowly, yawning widely as your body is overtaken by the need to stretch. It’s the weekend, and the weather was promised to be bright and beautiful.

You rummage around in the dark for some sweatpants, and then resign yourself to temporary blindness, pulling the blinds open and blinking in pain at the sudden stream of sunlight. You haphazardly make your bed—it’s not pretty, but at least now your blankets aren’t balled up in the corner—and head down the hall towards the enticing smell of food and coffee.

Jaehyun is cleaning up some dishes, and he turns when you enter with a sweet smile on his face. His eyes sparkle a little in the morning light, and his dimples make you melt a little. Or maybe it’s the way his hair is sticking up all over the place, assisted by the zig-zag headband he’s used to keep his bangs off his forehead.

“Good morning,” you say, unable to suppress a bubble of laughter at his appearance.

“Morning,” he says, voice deep and rough from sleep still, a wonderful contrast to his gentle appearance. He reaches out to you and pulls you into a hug, and you take a deep breath of his aftershave, smiling into his t-shirt.

“I cooked,” Jaehyun announces unnecessarily. “Without burning myself or anything else.”

“I—congratulations,” you reply, rolling your eyes and giving him a fond smile as you take a seat at the table. “Thank you,” you add as he slides a bowl of rice with an egg on top in front of you, along with a mug of coffee, made just the way you like it.

“So I was thinking,” he says as he brings his own breakfast to the table. “You’re not busy today, right?”

“No,” you reply.

“Wanna go to that coffee shop and, like, read and play board games, and then maybe take a walk by the river?” he suggests. “And then we can go to that boat restaurant for dinner.”

You smile. “Sounds like the perfect day,” you agree. You watch him through your eyelashes as he eats, laughing to yourself about how he eats in pout—you once told him he looked like Noot Noot the Penguin, and he had crossed his arms and frowned and insisted he did not (but all this did was look even more like Noot Noot in the moment). You find yourself endeared by the most obscure of his habits, like how now he’s rolling his rice into a little ball around his chopsticks before he eats it. It seems odd, but things like this, and the pout-eating, and the dumb little headband, make you love him more than his striking good looks or his beautiful voice. Those are nice, but really, I’m so lucky, you think, laughing when he spills a little coffee and stares down at his lap in shock and betrayal. I’m lucky to have this clumsy, silly, sweet boy.

Once the dishes are clean, you change into outside clothes and head out. It’s near afternoon now, and the late spring sun is pleasant and warm. Jaehyun skips a few paces ahead of you so he can walk backwards and talk facing you at the same time, and nearly trips over his own feet when he reaches an uneven patch of sidewalk. You’re reminded of how you met, two years prior. You literally bumped into each other in the dining hall of your university. You were both freshmen, and it was early April, and you were wearing a white shirt. To be fair, it was as much your fault as it was his; you’d both been walking backwards. You got tomato sauce all over. All Jaehyun had in hand was a glass of water, and somehow he’d only gotten it on his shoes.

You wanted to be angry, but he’d just looked so sorry when you turned around. He put his cup down and took his sweatshirt off and said you could borrow it “since your t-shirt’s kind of, um, ruined,” a comment you hadn’t understood until you ran to the bathroom and saw that the fabric had become see-through.

He offered to run into town and buy you a stain remover, and you’d accepted. He’d forgotten to pick up his sweatshirt when he came by your room later, and it had led to the two of you meeting in the very coffee shop you are now approaching. Though it hadn’t needed to be a meeting longer than five minutes, you ended up staying all afternoon, just talking, and by the time you’d finally parted ways, any lingering animosity you might have felt for him had completely disappeared, replaced by intrigue you later realized was budding attraction.

And now, here you are, grinning as he holds the door open for you. Here you are, finding a couple of comfy armchairs by the window while he goes to order for the both of you. Here you are, sipping the foam off the top of your latte and listening to Jaehyun talk about how the barista said their manager had approved of him and a couple of his friends to come perform on weekend nights.

“You’ll come, right?” he asks, eyes big and earnest.

“Of course I’ll come,” you reply, rolling your eyes.

Soon, you’re both engrossed in a very heated game of Uno, volume perhaps a little above what would be considered “indoor voices”; an elderly man glares at you over the rim of his glasses after a particularly loud minute or two that ended in Jaehyun angrily drawing eight new cards.

You stay for a few more hours, and when you tire of sitting in the same chair, you put your mugs up and head back out onto the street. It’s a little cooler out now, and a pleasant breeze kicks up as you get closer to the river. A little blush has risen to Jaehyun’s cheeks, maybe leftover from the Uno game, or maybe a result of being outside, but it’s cute, and you resist the urge to take his head between your hands and kiss him. It’s a little early in the day for that behavior, and you’re surrounded by families. We’ve probably already reached our quota of being a Public Nuisance today anyway, you think to yourself.

A ball rolls in front of your feet, and you bend to pick it up. You look in the direction from which it came, and see a little girl running up to you. You offer it to her, and she accepts, giving you a grin. One of her front teeth is missing. “Is that your boyfriend?” she asks, pointing at Jaehyun.

“Yep,” you reply, laughing.

She gestures you closer, and Jaehyun looks on in curiosity as you bend to hear her secret. “Your boyfriend is handsome,” she whispers in your ear, and you laugh again.

“Don’t tell him,” you whisper back. “He already knows, and he uses it against people way too often.”

The girl looks at you with wide-eyed sincerity. “Is he evil?” she asks.

“No,” you reassure her, trying not to laugh. “No, he’s the nicest.”

Apparently satisfied, the girl waves shyly at Jaehyun, and then runs back to her mom, who’s waiting a couple of yards away. You stand, smiling at the family, and then nudge Jaehyun forward.

“What did she say?” he asks.

“That you’re handsome,” you reply, sticking your tongue out at him. “I told her not to tell you ‘cuz it’d go to your head.”

“I’m the most humble person you know!” he protests.

“Uh-huh.” He’s kind of right though. Though at times he can get a little obnoxious (usually when he’s been hanging out with Johnny and his frat for a bit too long), he’s usually quiet and unassuming. He minds his own business, and doesn’t try to stand out or get attention. He gets it anyway, for being talented and smart and physically beautiful, but it’s not because he seeks it out. You really love that about him—that he’s down-to-earth, that he manages not to be conceited even though it would be completely fair if he was, that he’s happy to be a little bit of an oddball. You love that he’s the kind of person who doodles weird little faces in the margins on his notebook, declaring next to them, “I DON’T KNOW WHAT I’M DOING”; that he’s hardworking but still self-aware; and most of all, that he’s caring in little, gentle ways, almost nonchalantly, like it’s in his nature.

You tilt your head, looking him over where he walks beside you. Even though you’re not really doing anything right now, the corners of his lips are curled into a tiny smile. His hair is being blown back by the breeze; his hands are shoved into the pockets of his army green bomber jacket. It strikes you, solid and piercing, in your chest, just how content you are with your life, and with him. You focus as best you can on the scene, on the moment, and on him. These moments are ones you kind of wish you could tattoo to the inside of your eyelids, so that it’s easy to remember the good times, no matter where you are.

You realize Jaehyun’s gotten a bit ahead of you, and you hurry to catch up. He grins back at you, and points ahead. “Look,” he says. “We’re already there.”

You blink, and realize that the boat restaurant is in the distance. You look the other way, and see that the sun is low in the sky. You’ve been walking for a while now, and your stomach grumbles a little. “Good,” you say, taking his arm. “I’m starving.”

You get a nice window view table, and chat as you watch the boats go by while you wait for your food. You make fun of a couple of fancy pleasure boats that pass, suggesting the ridiculous names their disgustingly rich owners probably gave them. Jaehyun bobbles back and forth a little with the force of his giggling, and you find that you can’t stop smiling.

You eat until you can’t anymore, and Jaehyun insists on paying (“I have that new gig at the coffee shop, remember?”) even though he paid last time, too. And then the only thing between you and cuddling on your bed with Netflix in the background is the stroll home.

The sun is setting as you leave the restaurant, painting the sky a brilliant red and gold. Jaehyun takes your hand, swinging your arms between you as you walk. You’re both quiet for a minute, taking in the sunset over the river.

“Hey,” he says finally, turning towards you. “Today was perfect. Thank you for spending it with me.”

You look at him, so many responses filling your head, too fast for you to process them. Of course I spent it with you. What else would I be doing? You stop walking, pulling him to a halt, too. “I love you,” you say simply.

Jaehyun gets this big, kind of stupid grin on his face. His eyes nearly disappear, and little shadow whiskers appear on his face. His dimples are prominent as ever. He’s the picture of adoration as he leans in, giggling his way through an “I love you, too,” and then he’s kissing you.

Somehow, you both manage to lose your balance a little bit, and you stagger around for a second to regain it. You cup his jaw with both of your hands, kissing back as fiercely as you can. Your top lip throbs a little from the sudden impact, but you’re laughing anyway, because here you are with your clumsy, silly, sweet boy.

Simpler Times || Na Jaemin

Synopsis: You had recently gotten into a relationship with Na Jaemin, and you had barely held hands properly, let alone kissed. Maybe the grand reopening of the Drive-In Cinemas will be able to fix that

A/N: When I saw the collab call, I couldn’t help myself. I am a sucker for history and Na Jaemin, so why not combine the two! I’m not sure how I feel about this piece so I really hope that you, dear reader, enjoy it! 

You heard a car horn ring put through the entire neighbourhood, signalling that your ride and your date had arrived at your house. Applying one last stroke to your bright red lipstick, you did one final check over in your mirror, smoothing out the non existent crinkles in the skirt of your white and black polka dotted dress. Your hair fell in neat curls, reminciant of an older era. That was the point of your whole outfit. Your friend had mentioned to you that the old drive-in cinemas, that had been opened in the early 50s, had been renovated and were holding a 1950s themed night, open to everyone with one rule; you had to wear a 1950s inspired outfit. With this information in mind, you had recently gotten into a relationship with the ever-so-sweet Na Jaemin, who you had yet to go out on a date that wasn;t at the local cafe. You saw this as the perfect opportunity and asked him if he would like to go with you, to which he had said yes before he heard the end of your sentence. 

You dashed out the front door to see your boyfriend, leather jacket only allowing a glimpse of a loose white t-shirt underneath. His hair was slicked back and a toothpick rested lazily between his lips. He really took the whole dress-up just as seriously as you did.

“Hey! You look good!” You greeted him, wrapping him in a welcoming hug. He returned the hug, his bright signature smile adorning his lips. 

“Thank you. You look just as delightful.” He replied, a chuckle resonating from you at his choice of words.

“Did you look up a list of 50s lingo or something?” You laughed, as Jaemin’s face turned serious.

“How did you know? Was it that obvious?” He inquired, making you laugh more. 

“No, not at all, darling. Let’s go, shall we?” You said, patting his shoulder and walking around to the passenger seat of his car. 

“I decided to go for the greaser look. Jeno said I looked like a ‘Grease’ reject. Does it look bad?” Jaemin questioned with a pout, as he put his seatbelt on and started the car. You looked at the boy and shook your head.

“Fuck whatever Jeno says. You look amazing, Jaem.” You saw a light blush bloom on Jaemin’s cheeks, a shy smile spreading across his face. 

“Thank you, baby. The movies?”

You nodded. “The movies.”

Pulling up to the ticket booth, you noticed a blackboard leaning against it reading ‘GRAND REOPENING! NOW SHOWING: LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS’

You don’t recall ever watching this movie but you remembered your mother talking about it occasionally, something about it being her favourite movie as a teenager. The ticketman looked into the window, a smile appearing on his face when he saw you and Jaemin.

“You really dressed up for the occasion, kids.” His gruff voice was a slight surprise but you both thanked him. Satisfied with your responses, he held out a shaky hand with the ticket clenched inside. With one last thank you, Jaemin found a parking bay and effortlessly glided the car to a stop, suddenly becoming camouflaged amongst the other cars flooding the grassed area. A radio station was projected on the large stilted screen, allowing viewers to tune into the movie’s audio from the comfort of their own vehicles. You scanned the area, an eye-catching neon sign gaining your attention. 

“I’ll go get us food. Do you want a drink or something?” You said, unbuckling your seatbelt, your fingers curling around the door handle. Jaemin pondered for a moment before feeling confident in his answer. 

“As long as it’s not a milkshake or anything.” He answered, playing with the cuff of his jacket.

“Lactose intolerant?”

“Bingo.”

“Popcorn?”

“Absolutely.”

“Perfect.” And with that you ran out of the car and towards the neon sign, the buzzing growing louder in your ears. Jaemin watched after you, a soft smile on his face. He liked you a lot. 

The car ride home was silent, but not like the awkward ‘who’s gonna start the conversation’ silence, but instead the type of silence where no one needs to talk and set an almost sleepy atmosphere. You now understood why your mother loved that movie so much. It wasn’t particularly gory, the music was phenomenal, and the characters were interesting and unique (although you thought Audrey was a bit 2D, but when she’s portrayed by Ellen Greene, you couldn’t find it in yourself to hate her). Later on, Jaemin tapped your shoulder and asked if it was okay if he could put his arm around you, which you immediately gave your consent. He was awkward about it but found a comfortable position, which you stayed in for the rest of the movie.

As the car ran smoothly down the dimly lit town, roads curving into different streets, you couldn’t help but stare at Jaemin’s hand, a hand that was sitting uselessly on the gear stick, eyes focused on the road. Not giving yourself a second to think about what you’re doing, your fingers settled themselves between the gaps of Jaemin’s fingers. Jaemin glanced at your hands in surprise before turning back towards the road, his swallowing made obvious by the bob of his Adam’s Apple. Feeling slightly discouraged, you retracted your hand from his, your heart starting to sink, before your hand was grabbed by cold, slender fingers. The same fingers threaded themselves with yours, leaving you two in the same position you were moments ago.

The car inched towards your address, and despite your reassurances, Jaemin wanted to walk you to your doorstep. With the engine hums now silenced and the headlights refusing to light your path, it was up to his hand guiding you and the layout of the outside of your house etched in your brain to lead you to the front door with bumping into or knocking over something. Finally reaching your front porch, you turned to the slick haired boy in front of you, his shy smile birthing several thousand butterflies in your stomach.

“Thank you for tonight, I really enjoyed myself.” You thanked him, subconsciously squeezing his hand tighter, further showing your gratitude. His smile grew wider, which doubled the amount of figurative fluttering insects in your stomach as he nodded.

“I did too. Maybe we could do it again sometime?” He asked, a little awkward but with his dorky gesture, who were you to say no.

“Of course! I would love to!” You exclaimed, bouncing on your heels to exaggerate your emotions. He giggled, a light blush staining his cheeks. Once the laughter died out, his face turned a little more  serious, and his eyes glimmered as he made eye contact with you. He bit down on his lip, like he was holding back from saying something, but eventually he released his lip from his teeth and let out a shaky exhale.

“Can I kiss you?” 

His request took you aback, but you couldn’t ignore how your pulse accelerated at his question, how your fingers fiddled with each other, how your heart was screaming at you to answer him. 

You had never kissed Na Jaemin.

“Yes.” 

Jaemin stepped forward, letting go of your hand to place them on each of your cheeks. His eyes flickered from your eyes to your lips and back to your eyes again. He stared at you for a second, the millions of stars in your eyes asking one more time if you were okay with this. Your half nod was the last piece of confirmation before his plush lips touched yours. You swear fireworks burst in your heart, setting your heart running like a V8 engine. Your arms stuck awkwardly to your side like an old fashioned tin soldier you would find in your grandparents’ attic, too afraid to put them in the wrong place and make the first kiss awkward. 

Jaemin kissed for one, two, three, four, five seconds before pulling away. His eyes sparkled with wonder, his eyes flicking over each of your features before his signature smile broke across his face.

“I guess I’ll be seeing you around. Good night, Y/N!” He called, nervously pecking your cheek before dashing to his car, not wanting you to see the raging blush on his cheeks. You stood on your front porch, watching as he backed out of your driveway and slowly pulled out onto the street. To your surprise, he didn’t take off straight away. He offered you a wave, a wave that was reciprocated before his car carried him away. 

You had kissed Na Jaemin.

oh to write little blurbs of less than 0.5k again - not at how i’ve been drafting 2k things for the last month 😔😔

Shotaro is hard at work, trying to find songs that would describe his feelings.

Bordering on infatuation, but in his heart he knew he was in love. He had heard your beautiful laughter, and your voice, pleasant across the expanse of the cafeteria. Your confident swagger through the halls, ignoring the catcalls and breezing past him, sweet perfume lingering like a spell. And god, was he bewitched.

He thinks of how you had blown him a kiss when he had bought your favourite cake (don’t ask how he knew) , or when you told his bullies to fuck off in middle school, and called the ambulance when he was beaten up in high school

And yet, Shotaro knew he wasn’t special, because you were kind to everyone, bringing lunch for the kid who couldn’t afford the food, or helping the girl who broke her wrist to tie her shoelaces. You were kind that way, and so Shotaro knew you never really saw him. Your pretty eyes, always breezing on the edge of his silhouette, just missing the eagerness of his eyes.

After all, he was just the new kid from Japan who was mediocre, always floating on the edge of nothing and everything. He wasn’t that one student who could never keep up, but he wasn’t the top of his class either. And so he drifted along, driftwood floating along the stream, not drowning in the ocean but never flying to the sky.

But these kinds of thoughts wouldn’t help Shotaro with his precious playlist, and so he snaps back to reality and continues his task.

By the time he finishes, its half past 2am and Shotaro’s smile is equal parts exhausted and satisfied, and he dreams of your face when he gives it to you.

And of course, your smile and gracious hug are enough to appease him, because maybe you like him too.

And so imagine his hurt and his grief when he sees your post, lying in bed with your beau that he didn’t even know about, his playlist in the background.

“Best Valentines Day ever !”

Shotaro begins to cough up daisy petals that day, and soon after entire buds begin to surface, their petals wilting as Shotaro mumbles.

“She loves me. She loves me not. She loves me. She loves me not..”

New Year, New Chapter

December 31, 2020. 11:00PM

“The movie is about to start!” Jeno called from the living room.

“The popcorn is finished, love,” she responded as she scurried into the living room with the bowl of their snack in her arms.

The two were at her apartment spending New Year’s Eve watching movies and pigging out on their favorite snacks. He wasn’t exactly supposed to be there, but he was able to pull some strings just to stay for the night before returning to the dorms the next morning. Of course, he would be spending time with her in bringing in the new year, but he also had the best surprise for her.

Jeno had been thinking about this for months, since last July to be precise, but he hesitated in asking his hyungs about the matter as he was still young. He was an adult, but a young adult; and he was learning how to make certain life decisions. This was probably his biggest decision he had to make, and he decided he was going to go for it. Once he talked with the married members about it, his decision was given a green light to follow through.

Carrie’s tv screen opened with the Disney logo as Up began the adventurous tale of Carl Fredrickson. Her westie Clover snuggled up in her lap once the couple sat down on the floor with the fresh bowl in between them. Both Carrie and Jeno were in cozy pjs, hers a peach and fuzzy romper and Jeno in regular pinstripes. A few times, Jeno would sneak some kisses in from various places on her face, and Carrie would giggle.

Once it was about two minutes to midnight, Jeno knew he had to go forward with his surprise. He quickly paused the movie and turned to his girlfriend.

“Carrie,” he said as he took her hand and brushed her red hair from her shoulder, “I’ve loved you since I was seventeen, and I know in my heart that you’re meant for me. I know we’re young, but I can’t picture any life I live if you’re not in it.”

“Jeno, that’s sweet,” she smiled as she pet her dog’s head. She thought he just wanted to shower her with loving remarks, but to her surprise, he got into a kneeling position and pulled something out of his pocket. A small, red velvet ring box now rested in his large palm.

“Carrie Emma Ryan,” he recited her full name as opened the box, “will you make me the happiest man and marry me?”

A glittering, princess cut diamond ring was nestled in the box, and Carrie was floored.

“Yes!” she squealed as she threw her arms around his neck, causing Clover to leap out of her lap in surprise. “Yes, yes, yes! Ten thousand lightyears, yes!” She attacked his face with kisses.

A joyous, and hearty laugh escaped his mouth. “Can I put the ring on you, now?” he chuckled, still holding the box.

As a chorus of thunderous fireworks went off to ring in the new year, an engagement ring was slipped on to Carrie’s left ring finger to signify her and Jeno’s new chapter.

As if you people haven’t had enough of these types of posts, here goes yet another one. I’ve covered the personal planets in snapshots (see exhibit A, exhibit B, exhibit C, exhibit D and even exhibit E), but here is a more lengthy description of how the sun signs love and what the sun signs need in love.

pisces: out of all the sun signs, pisceans are the most empathic and psychically attuned to a lover. a pisces will not know any limits on how far they’ll go and how much they’ll sacrifice for a lover, which makes them as popular and revered as lovers as much as it makes them doormat material. they tend to idealize love and their partner, so much so that their fantasy takes precedence over sex or logic. they can be quite consumed by love. this compulsion with love can either transform their personalities into something ugly and irrational in the immature and low-functioning pisceans, or uplift the personalities of the evolved and high-functioning. sexually, they aren’t highly erotic in a purely physical sense, preferring a more ethereal approach, usually involving a melding of the spiritual and mystical as well as through fantasies. needs a partner who is well grounded and realistic. can adapt to their lover’s sexual style. pisceans work hard to make a relationship work, but if they feel that it is getting too difficult, their natural reaction is evasiveness, vagueness and deception, and prefer to take the easy way out of a tricky situation. the like to pass the buck when it comes to who is at fault, and not be too concerned about the consequences of their actions.
