TBH I'm starting not to find amusing her sexcapades anymore. Yes, the scene is awesomely written and built with the pictures, but it saddens me because she was making a huge progress after letting go of her ring and now she is right where she started. Also no one cares about her - not even her mother! (Or at least it's how it looks to me). And I truly love Mia and want he to be happy for a longer period of time. ��I have always seen her as a victim - never felt she has brought it on herself or anything, so to learn her lesson or anything. But I might be wrong. She somehow became my favorite and I became subjective when it comes to her. 

Thank you for the lovely compliment Mirena! As you know, after Mia's fiance Luke died, her sex drive was kicked into high gear. She had never been promiscuous before, but his death triggered something inside her. She needed to prove she was getting as much out of life as she possibly could, she needed to prove that she was alive, and connecting with people, and having fun, and filled with vitality. She needed to prove that she was the opposite of DEAD. She was devastated by Luke's death but she was also profoundly affected by the realisation that life can be fleeting and fickle; sleeping around and being a free spirit helped her feel that by embracing life to the fullest she was somehow keeping Grimmy at bay. (Of course, partying hard also meant she didn't have the time to properly grieve for Luke, either. ) Joël was a helpful stepping stone, but she didn't really start healing properly until she lost her engagement ring and allowed herself to grieve, as you so perceptively noted. She lost interest in meaningless, casual sex and was happy just hanging out with Brent and Jackie and Nanette (and indulging in fantasies about Raj, lolol!) Then Noah happened. And afterwards she fell back into her tried and tested coping mechanism....meaningless sex. But her reasons for having sex with Jordan from the nightclub and now less than 12 hours later the workman in the bathroom are more about filling a void than being free-spirited and liberated. As @rillensora mentioned her behaviour is totally escapist, an easy fix, a shallow and artificial way to feel good. 

I will be shedding more light on Nanette’s attitude towards Mia’s heartache over Noah shortly ;=)

Wow! That was really fast! I feel a bit like @shhhushhh. I thought she was learning to deal with her suffering differently than sex. But then, back to the beginning! And I was sad for nobody to look for her...

Yes the way she is acting now too it is almost like she is not interested at all in finding a nice guy to go out with, or maybe she is scared of getting hurt again after what happened with Noah. It’s like she’s deliberately or subconsciously sabotaging any chance of finding a fulfilling, healthy relationship. I don’t think you should be sad about nobody coming to look for her, though. She needs space at the moment, and Nanette realises that.

While I’m all for people making their own sexual choices and deciding what feels best to them, and while I do NOT think casual sex is an inherently damaging thing, I do agree with some previous commenters that Mia is not coming at it from a healthy place here. She feels trapped, both by Raj’s manipulative chessmaster behavior, and also the whole Paris thing. She detests and can’t abide the feeling of being trapped, so she’s “escaping” from those constraints in one of the only ways left open to her in her current situation. Which also happens to be a kind of “escape” that’s quite familiar to her and easy to fall back on.

I think this is spot-on and says a lot about Mia’s attitude towards Raj, too! As a confirmed free-spirit, she will always resent being controlled or forced to conform, as you so succinctly pointed out previously. But of course she is also fully aware of the fact that it is she who begged Raj for a job, and that really he is doing her a favour, and of course there is the fact that she really could not bear to jeopardize Nanette’s lifelong dream of going to Paris, so she is forced to button her lip and leave the room, which goes against all her instincts. And yes, sex with a stranger in a toilet is still a valid if unorthodox means of expressing that frustration and resentment and getting it out of her system! ;=)

Ironically this only confirms that Raj was right to place his trust in her to do the job he assigned her to do. I imagine he would approve of her getting her rebelliousness out of her system in a way that doesn’t jeopardize the practical aspects of the mission, and would barely find remarkable the details of exactly how.

2. Favorite part of writing

When you see the idea in your head taking shape before your eyes. I love when that happens. It gives you motivation to continue. To reach the conclusion of the story. 

11. Describe your writing process from scratch to finish.

Hmm this could take a forever. My writing process is a lot of free writing. I start with a simple open outline of what I want to accomplish in the story. I keep it fairly open so that when things change and characters develop I have room to expand on the story and still keep the end game in mind. I research ideas if I want to include a disease or use a certain object I’ll stop to research it to make sure I understand what I’m including in the story. I especially research any type of disorder because I want to represent it accurately without offending anyone. If after researching it I feel I can’t do it justice I won’t include it. I edit things out or change things to make sure I’m treating sensitive subjects the right way. Sometimes I’ll have someone I trust proof read things for me and offer suggestions. Plus I love discussing story ideas with others. It’s vital to my writing process. not to mention the file I keep of future ideas I have for other projects. This is a very brief glimpse into my writing process. 

12. How do you deal with self-doubts?

I find someone to talk to. Sometimes I’ll take a break and do something else. A lot of times I find rereading comments from people who enjoyed what I’ve written before helpful. It revives me and motivates me to continue. I love feedback whether you love the character or hate them because they’re making the lives of others miserable. I revives me because I know people are reading what I’m writing and they’re reacting in some way to it. So don’t hesitate to comment on others writings. You don’t know how much that motivates people.

This scene actually brought tears to my eyes. And yes, her parents are what she's most terrified of, which makes sense. UGH. Bigoted parents are the worst. I think this is the first scene I've read (I never have taken the time to go back and read 5 years earlier) where it really shows that Roy actually does love her.

I was a bit of a mess writing it. And 5 Years Earlier is not essential reading but it does place a lot of their behaviour in better context, I think.

Wow. I am mixed. This is the best break up I've ever read about. With both partners having found the right significant other and all. With supporting words and no hating cries. Humans hate change, yet life is change. But I'm still very very much selfishly upset about Roy ending up with someone that is not Sonia. Violet seems to be a bit naive to think that this would be easy for Sonia. It makes me wonder if she's ever been in a really serious relationship.

Hopefully she acquitted herself a bit better in the last update! :D But I think what it is is that Violet is a strong person with a firm sense of who she is and what she wants. She was bewildered by Sonia’s hesitation and lack of backbone, and initially found it difficult to understand. But now she understands Sonia’s reasons she has a bottomless well of empathy.   I really don’t think Sonia could have chosen a better person to go on this journey with.

It’s bizarre for me though to think of Sonia as being truly happy- she just seems to have made a career out of being miserable. But yes you are very perceptive as always, and I have my fingers crossed that Sonia will be able to follow your advice.

Yeah, I feel like... there’s so much dislike for Sonia for wanting them both, but you have to take her background into account. Roy and Sonia make better friends than marriage partners, but her whole life is built around their marriage. These two people, neither were able to marry the person they really loved, because other people forced them away from it. So they married someone they could love, if not the person they’d have chosen. Sonia has a LOT more to lose here than Roy does.

Yes, all excellent and salient points. Sonia is also going to be feeling rejected and a failure too, despite her relationship with Violet. Her marriage may have been a sham but it was still the foundation she built her life on. She will be lost for quite a while I think until she finds herself.

There’s no stigma attached to Roy’s choice of partner, for one thing. For another, while he loves his kids, Sonia is the one who spends more time with them from what I’ve seen. And a separation of parents is always hardest on the children. Sonia also doesn’t seem to have a ‘job’ or ‘identity’ of her own outside of this marriage. Roy has his work. He’s well known and famous. She’s... his wife, and the daughter of her parents. This kind of change alters her whole identity.

If they can do this amicably, as Roy seems to think is possible, the kids will definitely be better of than with he and Sonia arguing all the time, and both of them sneaking around and not being able to openly discuss their feelings. And a house heavy with secrets and unresolved tension is a horrible and unhealthy environment for kids to grow up in too, even if there’s no actual fighting! And I love your summation of Sonia’s life and identity...so spot-on, so true. She is Roy’s wife and the mother of his children. All she has outside that is her Book Club and her sexual flings. Roy has it so easy compared to Sonia.

It is terrifying to leave the security of something you have known for many years, even if it hasn't been perfect. But it just takes that ONE STEP... and then you realise that everything will be all right after all.

I'm still not sure about this whole thing. Of course, we all build our family life (marriage or not) around a relationship that has started as a romantic one, but most of the time it's the true friendship and mutual respect that holds us together and saves us in hard moments. Both Roy and Sonia are taking a great risk their new romances not to transform into something more. And the stakes are high in their case - the kiddos, Roy's career (I'm sure his boss would be delighted). Just my pragmatic view on the matter.

Yep, Roy’s boss is going to be really shitty...that will be a fun scene to write! :=) Roy is by nature a risk-taker, and risks and challenges don’t faze him.  You are so right Mirena that the stakes are high! And as @ktarsims  pointed out above, Sonia has a lot more to lose than Roy. But she also has so much more to gain as well in the long term- happiness and personal growth and discovering who she really is.

I get why you would think that, but it’s not so much that Sonia is addicted to drama, it’s that her marriage provides her with a sense of security and comfort. And she does love Roy, but she has no interest in having sex with him or sharing a bed with him. She was actually hoping that they could all live under the same roof in some bizarre, sanitized ménage à trois- one that exempted her or Violet from ever actually having to have sex with him! I think her proposal to Violet was proof of how removed from reality she really is.

Sonia, you can’t have it all.

I think she has had it all for quite a while though, when you think about it. She didn’t have to work and had a rich husband and a 4 lovely children, and it all looked picture-book perfect from the outside in. And she was able to pursue romances with various women from within the marriage with very little opposition from Roy. No wonder she didn’t want to upset the status quo.

Her parents certainly must accept most of the blame, but of course Sonia isn’t blameless either. (not that I am suggesting for a second you may think that!) As mentioned above, she has been guilty of having her cake and eating it too for a long time now.

I expected something like this. Unfortunately so many years of marriage and four kids have changed her and she us not that adventurous anymore (like she was when she was ready to leave Roy for Claire, while pregnant). I don’t think Violet would be willing (rightfully) to keep a relationship with Sonia after this.

Sonia is not as brave or adventurous (or foolhardy) as she was in Five Years Earlier for several reasons. When Sonia was considering running away with Claire she only had a child in utero- she now has 4 children. When she was with Claire she had her own job and income…now she is financially dependent on Roy. There was a sense of desperation compelling her to run away with Claire, and she was also extremely hormonal and motivated by feelings of anger and betrayal (for example her suspicions Roy was having an affair, the fact he tried to pimp her out to Malachias Jones). While the state of her marriage in 5 Years Later is by no means perfect, it has offered her a sense of security and a respectable facade to present to the rest of the world while enabling her to carry on having her love affairs with women. She’s become complacent and has had no motivation to change.

Talking abot Claire, may I throw my wild guess here and share a thought I've been having since the previous chapter? May it be that Sonia is hesitant and throwing insane suggestions around not because she doesn't truly want to leave Roy but because she doesn't want to leave him for Violet? Even on subconscious level.

Sonia does not want to leave Roy, but at the same time she really does want  Violet. As several people have said in earlier comments, she wants to have her cake and eat it too. Because she is selfish and blinkered, but also because she has a lot of fears. She has been in denial about her true sexuality nearly all her life. Also she doesn’t think her suggestion to Violet was insane at all, which is really sad.
