Years ago, my wife was art directing a photoshoot for Macy Gray and I came by for a bit. Midway through the shoot, Bobby Brown showed up to hang out. He was carrying his newborn in a BabyBjörn. “Bobby Brown with a Baby Bobby in a BabyBjörn” sent me into a giggle fit so loud, I had to leave.

This song was Macy Gray's breakout hit in 1999, and it's not hard to see why – it's utterly charming, especially accompanied by this sweet music video. I particularly love her voice, because it's not the kind of voice you hear every day. Fans of Amy Winehouse might discover a new favorite here as well.

"I Try" is a song co-written and performed by American R&B and soul singer and actress Macy Gray, released as the second single from her debut album, On How Life Is (1999). It topped the UK Hip Hop/R&B Singles chart and peaked at number 6 on the main UK Singles chart. Globally, the song would be Gray's most successful single, peaking at number 5 in the US and Norway, number 4 in Scotland, number 3 in Austria, number 2 in Canada, and number 1 in Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand. At the 2001 Grammy Awards, "I Try" won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, and was nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. At the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, the video won Best New Artist in a Video and was also nominated for Best Female Video.
