Love is when you are frightened for yourself and for your heart, uncertain for what is ahead but you cannot refrain from taking the chance. You defy all the logics that your inner self brings forth to keep you safe from embarking on this risky journey yet you still jump on the way, head first. 

Love is mad like that. No one calculates whether the risk is worth taking or not.

So is that if you start addressing someone in your thoughts, that is when you are falling for them? Or that you have already fallen and are only sinking deeper in love?

Sweet, an ally - I don't usually have many of those! ;)

And even though... - (spoilers and my thoughts which are long and ranty)

...I wasn't totally on board with Ted and Robin ending up together, they had a point: we spent a long time listening to a story that rarely contained the Mother and a lot of time of Ted trying to get over Robin, it made sense that they really needed to just be themselves until the timing was right. Her career came first and he wanted to settle and have a family. That, to me, was more realistic than anything.

And the people who are upset about Barney "going back to his old ways" - he didn't. He was himself. While I was never outraged with the Robin/Barney pairing, it made no sense to me. There is always a need to make people "better" by coupling them up with someone, that they only need to find another half and I truly find that bullshit. I do not strive for that in my own life and its probably why I hate so much pop culture out there. Stories are never about a person, man or woman, they are always about them finding "their other half" and that, to me, is utterly ridiculous. 

And though the show was built on a premise of someone doing that exactly, that's not what the show was really about - it was about 4 friends supporting Ted in search of something that every other character on every other show is looking for but I watched for 9 years because they didn't let it define him in their eyes. He was on a ridiculous quest but they loved him anyway not because of it. They were not there to make sure it happened. And so many people dropped off watching over the middle years because they didn't see that or just forgot. So wrapped up in waiting to watch a couple that they missed the journey along the way.

And this doesn't mean I don't believe in something like Lily and Marshall or that people shouldn't be together. For some, that does happen, and what I always liked about HIMYM is that they didn't make it easy for those two either. They worked on it and tried hard because even though they were a destined couple, it was still work to get two individuals together for a lifetime. 

Anyway, my long winded point being: I'm going to miss a show where 5 friends liked each other, took care of each other, and called each other on each other's bullshit not just because it was a funny sitcom trope and that the story ends years later when the couple meant to be together is together because neither of them are compromising they're own story to be there. That is how a show like Friends ended but that is a rant for another day. I get tired of watching tv shows where the entire raison d'etre is just to find someone else; there is almost never a character out there just living their life for them. I'm going to miss that a lot.
