Episode seventeen, the boneturners tale. Fucked up rat.
Call him the boneturner the way he turns my bone
MAG 62 “First Edition” review:
What the fuck is happening!!!!!! First MAG 61 and the fucking continuation of MAG 002, now we don’t only get a Gertrude tape but also it’s with fucking Mary Keay? Which means it’s connected to Jurgen Fucking Leitner. I don’t know what’s worse, her general creep factor of the fact that she confirmed that Leitner is boring.
And also the Keay family used to be a part of the Magnus Institute? To tell you the truth, I’ve always felt like all these statements were old. I keep forgetting that those like this one were recorded in modern years like 2008. It feels strange to think that all this stuff is so close together. Well, except for the Alexandria and the Cannibal one. But I’m getting off track.
I think because Keay wasn’t spooked 8 wasn’t spooked either. Doctors killing yoy is not a great thing, but not entirely unheard of. One of the greatest serial killers was a British doctor if i remember correctly. I’m just so curious as to what they do with the bodies. The original owner of the book in this one was using it for extortion, but that lady seemed to be actually dead.
Also what really was the book in the first place? I feel like I missed that bit. She did some wavy hand things an spoke aloud, she injected something into a lady who died, and she made a previous patient give her money or something to that effect. Nothing much interesting in the end.
And what’s this about the Keay family being gifted with the touch of the supernatural? From the sounds of it, they had something even before Keay did some shit with the Leitner books. All correct me if I’m wrong but she is the of lady in tattoos from MAG 4, right?
Actually, give me a second, I mgoing to look through the episodes and list all the statements I think are connneted to either the Keays or to Leitner.
MAG 4, MAG 17, MAG 23, MAG 35, MAG 46, MAG 49, possibly MAG 57, and now MAG 62. Some of these are a stretch, but I’m somewhat certain.(EDIT: I’m looking through my old reviews. Gerard Keay is mention in MAG 48!)(EDIT EDIT: all MAG 41 lol)
More often than not these tapes focused on the grandson, not Mary. Can’t remember his name these days. Well, either her grandson, or the man who ran off with the Bone Turner’s Tale. There’s still a lot about all of these people I can’t remember immediately, and likely to be a lot more in the future.
I’m giving this episode a 7 homicides out of 10 false ambulances. Would commit medical malpractice again.
Statement ends.
Jared hopworth cannot hold down a career.
is he a BUTCHER?
is he a GYM OWNER?
is he a FARMER?
is he LIVING WITH HIS MUM AND TERRORISING LOCAL LIBRARIANS FOR FUN?
gotta hand it to him boys got variety
TMA What We Know -[17]- The Boneturner's Tale
pre-statement:
[none]
--STATEMENT--
-the novel that the boneturner's tale's ISBN is registered to is a book about people doing drugs, which technically makes this Another Drugs Shoutout.
-also the boneturner's tale is here. Michael Crew was the last guy to take it out.
-Jared has arrived. probably to come get his new moniker
~INTERRUPTION~
-first mid-statement interruption of the podcast!! idk if there are any more of these (aside for calliope my beloved <3).
-Elias's voice is a jumpscare. not beause it's Elias, but because it's so different from how I remember his voice sounding. I think he actually sounds different in later episodes.
-he says Naomi lodged a complaint against the institute, and Jon should try not to antagonize associates of the Lukas family because they support the institute <-no details on what exactly Naomi was complaining about, but I do find it funny that Jon takes exactly one (1) live statement, and manages to irritate the person so much they immediately file a complaint on him.
-the digital recording equipment Jon uses to record fake statements is described as 'Rosie's equipment', which makes it sound like it wasn't the institute's equipment, Rosie brought it in personally for Jon to record on.
-Martin's out sick with a stomach bug
-I do find it necessary to point out that we only learn this because Elias asks Jon if he knows where Martin is. Elias why are you like this. I'm very amused by these antics but still. You're a fascinating man.
--Back to the STATEMENT--
-dunno why this isn't as Spoken About as the previous spider statement, but Sebastian's interraction with Jared is near-identical to Jon's interaction with his Mr Spider Bully. Guy shows up to start harassing you, it escalated to physical violence, as soon as the aggressor picks up the book, he becomes entranced by it and forgoes bullying in favor of reading.
-Sebastian's really out here like "it was so creepy. It was creepy because I didn't think Jared knew how to read."
-guy sees an injured rat. rat seems to be missing bones I think.
-Jared's mother returned the boneturner's tale. she's probably missing the bones in her arm. <-Jared DOES seem like the type of guy who has his mom do his chores for him
-our guy knows better than to touch the boneturner's tale
-boneturner's tale makes the books around it bleed.
-book is a storybook about some guy called the boneturner and his observation of his village. book seems to be referring to The Canterbury Tales.
-flute made out of rib. not gonna lie that sounds cool
-you'll never guess what nameplate is inside the book. You'll absolutely never guess.
-some Jared-ish thing standing at strange angles and Taller with sharp fingers comes into the library demanding the book
-guy tries to punch him but his ribcage is functioning has a bear-trap right now, so. ouch ow ow.
-Jared has some extra limbs now too
post-statement:
-this makes Jon "deeply unhappy", which is the funniest possible way to describe Story About Guy Who Steals Bones
-Jon believes this statement because it mentions a Leitner.
-Jon's once again going to talk to Elias about handling Leitners, he doesn't expect Elias to actually do anything about it though
-Tim and Sasha investigated police reports, there are a few on Jared
-Jon asked Martin to get a followup from Sebastian, but Sebastian's dead. No external trauma on the body, ruled 'hit and run' because he was very mangled. <-probably because he's missing a bunch of bones, but who's to say <-Im also gonna assume that Jon asked Martin for the followup before Martin called out sick, because I don't want to believe that Jon is actually the sort of evil boss who asks you to work when you're sick
that david bowie quote “i always had a repulsive need to be something more than human” actually applies very well to jared hopworth. he had the book for maybe a day, and warped his body almost beyond recognition
so I’ve been listening to more of the magnus archives (my bueatiful insomnia causer) and I just got to the Boneturner’s tale so I go and look online after I finished it and I love the connections being made to Pageturner and Micheal Crew
but
why is nobody talking about the connections to The Piper?!???!?
like in the actual book in the podcast says “ from his rib a flute to play that merry tune of marrow took” (which is the only words we actually hear as direct content, seems important) it aligns pretty well with “One to play its pipes of scrimshawed bone” from the description of the piper
