while i was driving to work today i was reminded today that melanie calling jon "the ceaseless watcher's special little boy" is canon and i almost had to pull over
MAG189: Peers
watercolor & ink // kofi
I know that Jon is canonically ace but did Georgie just make a joke about him liking being in the middle of threesomes?
‘you’re alive!’
‘yeah!’
archivist can get little a joy. as a treat
the eye when jon disappears into the tunnels and is out of its sight, seconds from making an intercom announcement like a mom who loses a kid at the mall:
Oh hello melanie, georgie, what was that? Youve been unwillingly thrust into a place of power over innocents? You dont really liie it but at the same time "it has its uses"? Mmhm. Go on. Oh yes. 💅
the beginning of this episode was weirdly one of my favorite jonmartin interactions. why you ask? because i feel like so much fiction just portrays relationships as though once they get together that’s it and they will never ague or disagree.
nobody will ever be in a bad mood or ever say something they don't mean. and they will always agree on everything. even difficult questions. and it feels unrealistic and shallow. a good relationship is one where people can forgive each other for their less than stellar moments and where they can argue without it devolving into a severe and toxic and hurtful thing.
the argument in the beginning makes jonmartin feel stronger, deeper, and more real. they can argue and it feels like just that. an argument. without it being a whole dramatic Thing TM like it usually is in fiction. They aren’t going to break up over this. This isn’t a major argument. Just a little disagreement. you can hear the very genuine annoyance and frustration, but underneath it all, there persists tremendous love and tenderness. the voice acting in this one was just top notch.
It’s a nice character moment to get to see the huge frustrations and tensions of their situation actually boil over for each of them. And also a nice relationship moment to see them bickering with a definitive edge, but also with care. Even in anger you can hear how much they love each other. How they continue to look out for each other. And how they know which boundaries not to cross. I love this moment so, so much. It’s such a well written relationship with a depth you so rarely see in fiction.
