Right so I was talking to my dad who I got to start listening to TMA because he likes horror and he mentioned that he’d recently finished episode 16, Arachnophobia, which started me thinking about this anyway but then he mentioned how “Jonathan Sims is very skeptical” (I needed to quote that because it was very funny to me at the time tbh) but that he’d seemed more dismissive about this one than usual and like. I meannnn
I don’t think I’d really put much thought into this episode with the perspective given by mag81 but it had to have been difficult for him right?? If I’d had a traumatic experience with spider-related supernatural events and then read about someone having a different, but still spidery supernatural experience… I think I’d want to dismiss it too
EPISODE 81 👀👀👀👀
NOOOOO BABYGIRL
okay batshit theory time please feel free to make fun of me as someone who has not followed the arg at all but what if sam is the alt version of the kid who got taken by mr spider instead of jon
You know I thought my tma relisten would be more along the lines of "Oh, I completly missed the influence of the Desolation in this one the first time" and not sobbing because of lines like "And my suffering, I now know, pales in comparison to what has befallen others far more innocent that I. But perhaps not for long." Because of course there'd be a lot of tragic irony or foreshadowing that I missed. Should've expected that.
i think what makes MAG81 so particularly tragic and such excellent horror is the larger context of the story that it occurs in. Jon thought he had a terrible childhood encounter and escaped but the audience knows he never did. the monster got him. he just didn't realize.
Mr. Spider boutta see the bottom of my docs
